Because of not seeing. How many of those who see are conceptual valid cognitions? Because they do not enter the realm of reality as it is. You yourselves accept this reason. Not seeing the reality of the ultimate truth, the ultimate truth is the very nature of conventional phenomena, naturally pacified in its own essence. Thus, understanding it, with the wisdom that realizes reality as it is, the ultimate truth is manifested, as it appears in the Madhyamaka scriptures. (168b) In this way, you do not want it to become nihilistic. Although conventional truth itself is not emptiness, the noble ones, because they see the emptiness that is empty of the truth established by the way things exist in their own nature, wish to see the reality of the ultimate truth. Because that kind of emptiness is not the reality of the ultimate truth. The characteristic, the emptiness of conventional things themselves being empty of their own nature, is not the ultimate truth. Apart from that, the nature of emptiness has no basis for emptiness in the knowable. If one clings to the emptiness without it, a nihilistic emptiness that cannot be established by dependence on the knowable, like a rabbit's horn, even if one is devoted to it, it will not lead to the understanding of the emptiness of the ultimate truth. Such emptiness of the ultimate truth, the characteristic, the nature of conventional truth is not the ultimate truth, because it is another phenomenon unrelated to it. For example, just as you think, the true appearance of the pot that is refuted by the sign of the subject, and the true appearance of the pot established by nominal valid cognition, are not characteristics. If you think that it has not been established as another unrelated phenomenon, then it is established. When you grasp the phenomenon of conventional functioning as truly existent, established by valid cognition, and the phenomenon of truly existent established by the way things exist in their own nature, cutting off the extreme of existence, you do not want the former phenomenon, the emptiness or nature of each of their own essences. The emptiness of the latter phenomenon, the emptiness of each of their own essences, is not the emptiness of the former phenomenon, the emptiness of each of their own essences, so the emptiness (169a) becomes a phenomenon different from the nature of the former phenomenon. If you think that the truly existent phenomenon established by grasping the extreme of existence does not exist in the knowable, then it depends on a phenomenon that does not exist at all in the knowable.

Since it is impossible, the dependent phenomena of emptiness and dharmata that depend on that subject cannot be established as knowable. Such emptiness, ultimate truth, and dharmata that cannot be established cannot be related to the nature and dharmata of the conventional truth, which is established as the two truths in the knowable, without being different and without being other, so where is there a place where it can exist? Therefore, if your assertion is true, then the knowledge of the noble meditative equipoise must be admitted to be covered by the obscuration of ignorance, which is the entry of the mind into the suchness of both truths. In short, not examined by reason, and existing in the face of delusion, it has the meaning of existence; examined by reason, and not existing in the face of non-delusion, it does not have the meaning of non-existence. In the scriptures of the Great Vehicle Madhyamaka, it is said that although the phenomena of the two truths are nominally established as merely conventional in other schools, in the analysis of the two truths, in either case of the two truths, in one's own system, even a tiny part divided into a million parts, such as atoms and momentary indivisible consciousness, cannot be found to exist or be established. Since that dharma called emptiness, which has not been found in this way, is not established as the basis of either things or non-things, the dharmadhatu is free from the characteristics of elaboration (169b). As the great Jetsun Mila said, "Under the power of conventional truth, the Buddha said that all exists; under the power of ultimate truth, even the Buddha does not exist from obstacles." As it is said, conventional existence is false existence, and it is not established as existing there, and it cannot be established as existing in one's own system, so that non-existence which is named as non-existent in the ultimate sense is merely negated as non-existent, but through rational analysis, it will again be established as existent, otherwise it is impossible not to be emptiness and become a true self. You did not mention these in your letter, and you think that everything is empty, which is not in accordance with reality. All conventional dharmas exist in their respective places, not empty in their own nature, and the dharma of emptiness that is said to be empty, the emptiness of the ultimate truth of true emptiness, does not abandon its own nature of the dharma of true emptiness and exists, and the basis is not
