That which is considered true is refuted by this very treatise that is currently being explained. In the commentary to this, it says, 'That and whatever is false even in conventionality is not a conventional truth.' Having read it only once, without allowing even a bit of thought, it is merely making notes on the Madhyamakavatara. If it exists in conventionality, existence does not pervade; if it exists in name, existence pervades, this is something that the Prasangikas establish in their own system, which they would not even dream of. In particular, it is because they specifically direct their refutation towards those who claim that it is established by their own system's valid cognition. Because this way of dharma is such that all extremes of elaboration should be refuted, and whoever accepts elaboration in their own system will turn into an extreme of elaboration. Therefore, upon examination, both are equally non-existent; when not examined, both are equally existent; in this way, when not examined, in the world's fame, the worldly conventional person also establishes that worldly person as both correct and incorrect, merely following the world's statement. Other than that, there is no such distinction made in one's own system. It seems that you have not understood even a bit of such meaning, and if you, like this, still want to entrust the beginning and end of the Madhyamaka doctrine to you to organize, then there is really nothing else to say, just like saying that there is a great danger that the fragments of a clay pot will turn into a pile of rubble! Also, Tagna Go Chenpa said, 'In the Autocommentary to the Madhyamakavatara, it says, 'Conventional truth is deceptive, therefore it is not ultimate truth.' He wrote that this proves that the distinction between Prasangika and Svatantrika made by Je Sakya Pandita is in accordance with reality. According to the literal meaning of your words, the Svatantrikas believe that conventional truth is ultimate truth, and the Prasangikas do not believe that, and this is said to be the difference between Prasangika and Svatantrika, if that is the case, what will happen? The quote that you cite of Sakya Pandita establishing the difference between Prasangika and Svatantrika is not a quote of Sakya Pandita explaining the difference between Prasangika and Svatantrika; even if it is, if Sakya Pandita, while distinguishing between Prasangika and Svatantrika, explains the way in which Svatantrika and valid cognition are in accordance with each other according to your literal meaning, then you, who consider yourselves to be great protectors of Sakya Pandita's doctrine, are merely speaking as if you are killing his doctrine. As it is said: The distinctions of Madhyamaka, Pramana, and philosophical tenets are, with respect

You asked me this question. Although there are many who speak about this meaning, due to the blessings of Manjushri, only I truly realize it as it is. In conventional truth, not deceiving, this intention is the rule of valid cognition. It is in accordance with the Svātantrika school, while for the Prāsaṅgika school, in brief, they do not accept truth in conventional truth. In the verse quoted, due to the difference between Madhyamaka and valid cognition, the difference between Svātantrika and Prāsaṅgika is not clear. Moreover, saying that valid cognition and the Svātantrika school have the same view means that, in conventional truth, things that do not deceive are in accordance with what is established by valid cognition. (162a) It is also not acceptable to explain it in accordance with the intention of Sakya Paṇḍita. Because the valid cognizers of the Vaibhāṣika and Sautrāntika schools believe that in ultimate truth, things that do not deceive are established by valid cognition. However, they do not accept that things that are merely labeled by conventional terms and have no function are not deceptive. Because the sutra says: "Valid cognition that possesses non-deception, residing in things that can function, is non-deceptive." Moreover, the Svātantrika school believes that things established in ultimate truth are non-deceptive, how could they, like them, take this as the main object of refutation and refute it? If you can say that the teachings of Lord Sakya Paṇḍita are beneficial to the Sakya teachings and are free from error, that would be acceptable. If not, the Sakya school itself cannot prove that it is in accordance with the scriptures with any teachings or reasoning. If you just speak from the Sakya point of view and waste your efforts, that is the greatest waste of life and merit. The second point is: Due to the influence of cataracts, there is a mistaken perception of hair, etc. When the eyes are clear, wherever one sees its nature, one should understand it in this way. It is believed that the first truth is spoken, and then the second truth is taught. Because this is not the real object of consciousness and sound. Therefore, it is explained by the analogy of the common experience of beings: A person with cataracts, due to the influence of cataracts, has a mistaken perception of the nature of food, drink, hair, etc. Wanting to eliminate it, he works very hard to turn the objects around. When a person with clear eyes goes to him, if he does not see hair in the vessel, he will not think about its characteristics, such as: Is this thing hair? Is its color as blue as indigo? Therefore, for a person with unclean eyes, a person with clean eyes says that there is hair in the vessel (162b).
