The conventional is something even children know to be false, and blue and so on appear to be true, but emptiness of inherent existence does not appear to be unobscured to them, therefore the conventional that is contrary to the ultimate nature is not the conventional truth. The conventional truth is distinguished by the afflictive ignorance that is included in the branches of existence. If we take the meaning of the words of the commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way" as a firm point, then it is clear that the thought that grasps the conventional as true is necessarily an afflictive obscuration. Whichever root ignorance that establishes the appearance of the conventional truth, the conventional truth appears to children who have not turned away from it, but it does not appear to noble ones who have turned away from it, because they see only the conventional. Therefore, it would be a great mistake to hastily conclude that the view that grasping at truth pervades afflictive obscurations is definitely not the intention of Chandrakirti. For hearers, solitary realizers (158b), and bodhisattvas, who have abandoned afflictive ignorance, and who see things like formations and images as being like existence, for them, things that have become artificial are like nature, but they are not true, because they do not have the thought of grasping at truth. For children, it is deceptive, but for noble ones, it becomes merely conventional, like an illusion, of dependent arising. That mere conventionality also appears only in the subsequent attainment of noble ones who have objects of experience that include appearance, because it pervades only the ignorance that is characterized by the obscuration of knowledge. It is not in the state of meditative equipoise, which has objects of experience without appearance, because all elaborations are completely pacified. Here, in ancient texts, it is said that in many Madhyamaka scriptures, taking meditative equipoise as non-appearing, the noble ones of the lower three levels, in their subsequent attainment, even if they do not grasp at truth, there is an appearance of truth. And for the Buddhas, there is neither grasping at truth nor appearance, but only the appearance of conventional dependent arising. To say that this does not accord with the view of the great master Chandrakirti is unreasonable. If the noble ones of the lower three levels have an appearance of the conventional, it is impossible for the conventional truth to appear, and it is pervasive that only the conventional appears.

. Because the Buddhas do not perceive both the conventional truth and mere convention, since both are dharmas that depend on ignorance, whether afflicted or unafflicted, and are contradictory to the wisdom (Sanskrit Devanagari: ज्ञान, Sanskrit Romanization: jñāna, Chinese literal meaning: wisdom) of knowledge. The former view, saying that the side where convention (159a) exists in the realm of the Buddhas is beautiful, is also clearly stated and appears to be a well-spoken explanation. In the commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way," from "That is also the Hearers and Solitary Realizers" to "not those who possess realms of experience without appearance." Although those noble ones do not have a clinging to truth in convention, convention is false, and that is the obscuration of knowledge. Like this clear scriptural statement, Zilong Shakya the Great considers the subtle clinging to truth in the continuum of the noble ones to be afflicted ignorance. Saying "Therefore, it is said like that" is a sophistry that distorts one's own sectarian view, reversing it from the meaning of the text. Because there, if there is subtle clinging to truth, then the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas have abandoned afflicted ignorance. Joining "For those who see things as being like formations, images, etc." as the subject to be proven and the means of proof, it should be reversed and said like this: For those Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas who have not separated from unafflicted ignorance, it should be said "For those who see things as being like formations, appearances, etc." If that is the case, according to this system, the author of the text would say: "We will become powerful, so your system is completely useless." Therefore, the protector Nagarjuna and his followers, if they have not realized the absence of inherent existence of the aggregates and other dharmas that are the basis of designation, it is impossible to realize the selflessness of the designated person. Like this, clinging to truth is the ignorance that is the root of cyclic existence (159b). For that reason, if it is said to be a noble one, then there is no clinging to truth in their continuum, therefore saying that clinging to truth pervades the obscuration of afflictions, then the Consequentialist's statement is without fault. However, Zilong the Excellent and Dana Gochenpa say: "If it is explained like this according to the Consequentialist's system, that is a very great fault." Like this, criticizing Tsongkhapa is like a crow soiling a clean beak with filth.
