After distinguishing the nature of the two truths, there are also two types of false appearances: true and false. In order to explain its object and subject, false appearances are also accepted as two types: those cognitions that arise from clarity, where the six senses are not damaged by internal and external causes of confusion, and are known in the world as apprehending true objects; and the two types of flawed senses where the six senses are tainted by causes of confusion. The cognitions of those who possess flawed senses are considered to be inverted cognitions (155a) in relation to cognitions that are well-established and not tainted by the six senses. Secondly, the general division of objects into two types, true and false, and the detailed explanation of the divisions of false objects. First: Whatever is apprehended by the six senses without harm, and is known by the world, is true in the world itself, and the rest is considered false by the world itself. Just as worldly views have two types, correct and incorrect, so do objects. Whatever is to be apprehended by the six senses that are not harmed by internal and external defilements is what is known by the world. That is true in the world itself, because it appears as such in the eyes of the world, and is clung to as true, and does not deceive in conventional terms. For the noble ones, that is not true, because they do not see anything in meditative equipoise, and it is said that appearing in that way in the subsequent attainment is a delusion. The rest, which appears as the object of the senses with harm, is established as false in relation to the truth and falsehood of the world itself, because some worldly people have appearances of such objects but no clinging to truth, and some have clinging to truth but no appearance, so they are not conventionally used as objects of common acceptance and rejection. Among them, those who suffer from cataracts and yellow eyes, and those who have eaten Datura flowers, have internal causes of confusion that harm the senses. Sesame oil, rock caves, and the desert, where the sunlight is close in spring, have external causes of confusion for the senses, because even without internal causes of confusion, they cause the mind to perceive reflections, fragments of rock, and mirages of water, and so on. Similarly, the medicines and mantras concocted by magicians, etc., also
