Because, for a basis-established dharma, if the basis is not established in either one or different, it will not become basis-established. So, for the Madhyamikas, will they also admit that the two truths are either one or different? No, they won't. Because when we Madhyamikas analyze in detail, whether the two truths are basis-established or not, it is beyond speech, thought, and expression. How can we even conceive of whether the nature of the two truths is one or different? Here, the words of the great Tsongkhapa and his followers are: If things established by conventional valid cognition do not establish existence, non-existence, etc., in their own nature, then it becomes slandering cause and effect, falling into the supreme nihilistic view. In particular, the Madhyamaka-Prasaṅgikas, when debating whether their own and others' views are reasonable or not, must admit that in their own system, if something is truly existent, then it is definitely not non-existent; if it is not truly existent, then it must be non-existent. Because the *Refutation of Objections* says: "If self-nature is negated, then self-nature itself will be established." Therefore, if the meaning of emptiness is not basis-established as truly existent, then it must be basis-established as truly non-existent. And, if its meaning does not exist as truly existent, then it must exist as truly non-existent. If it is not like this, then nothing can be trusted by valid cognition. This is what they say. This is not reasonable. According to your statement, then because the Madhyamaka-Prasaṅgikas must admit that this quote from the *Refutation of Objections* contradicts their own system regarding true existence and non-existence, they must also admit that true existence and non-existence exist in the system of the Madhyamaka-Prasaṅgikas. If this is the case, then it is clear that the Madhyamaka-Prasaṅgikas who admit true existence and non-existence are not true Madhyamikas. Because admitting the extreme of true existence and non-existence is known and established as the proponent of entities. And the person who thoroughly refutes true existence and non-existence, etc., through reason, and does not establish anything such as true existence and non-existence, etc., and is beyond speech, thought, and expression, is established as a Madhyamika. Therefore, saying that if the Madhyamaka-Prasaṅgikas refute true existence in their own system, they must admit true non-existence, this statement, although speaking of Madhyamaka in words, has actually become speaking of entities in meaning. Here, the great Zilong Śākyapa says: Regarding this quote from the *Refutation of Objections*, there are two situations regarding whether the Madhyamikas admit it in their own system or not.

Therefore, in the stage of refuting the self in between, if one negates the existence of what is real, one accepts the existence of what is unreal. Finally, in the stage of refuting everything, the way of not establishing the non-existence of the real self, truth, etc., after negating the existence of the real self, truth, etc., is said to be the supreme tenet of the Prasangika school, which surpasses the Svatantrika school. This is unreasonable, because asserting that existence and non-existence of what is real, and the contradictions based on them, etc., are real in one's own system, is itself asserting entities. The Madhyamika does not have a time when he abides in the side of asserting entities even in the stage of refuting the self in between. And, if the Madhyamika abides in the side of asserting entities there, and thus it is reasonable to accept it, then there is no reason why it is not reasonable to abide in that side and thus accept it in the stage of refuting everything. The first is established, because if one does not negate the self of the four extremes, such as existence and non-existence, which have become real, in the stage of refuting the self, it will not become a refutation of the self. (145b) There, if one negates the existence of the real self and establishes the existence of the unreal self, then one must accept the existence of the real self, because if the unreal self exists, then one must accept the existence of the real self that it negates. Just as the real fire negates and eliminates the real cold touch. Like you, the necessity of mainly refuting everything is that the real self has already been negated in the stage of refuting the self, so thinking that one will negate the existence of the unreal self here is completely ignorant. Because in the stage of refuting the self in between, one has already cut off all the real self and truth that depend on persons and phenomena as unreasonable in both truths, so in the final stage of refuting everything, even the slightest characteristic of what can be negated and what can be negated, which is established by realization and has not become real, is separated from the expression of speech and thought, according to the oral instructions of the Kagyu Dakpo Lhaje, one merely establishes what is called "unmodified ordinary consciousness" in that place. In that way, it has disappeared into that sphere free from elaboration, so it is merely given the false name of "refuting everything." In the stage of refuting the self in between, the real self exis
