Although the well-spoken reasoning known as Sarma is not bad, a middle path is taken. In order to fulfill the intentions of those early noble individuals, such as the early Prasangikas (140a) in the tradition of Jowo, in general, and especially how the four Patsab sons explain it, and as it appears in the Great Madhyamaka Memorial of the Great Peacock, Bodhicitta Perseverance, it is said thus: All phenomena from form to omniscience are primordially free from all elaborations and characteristics such as existence and non-existence, permanence and annihilation, knower and knowable, one and different. The noble ones' samadhi, the non-conceptual wisdom, sees no elaborations or characteristics whatsoever, and each individual's self-awareness sees the ultimate truth and suchness from form to omniscience, which are merely labeled as such. It is not established as something independent of the noble ones' samadhi or as something different from it. Nor is there a noble samadhi that is different from the ultimate truth. Furthermore, for ordinary beings, all the names of persons and phenomena that are labeled by ignorance, which from beginningless time has been accustomed to clinging to things as they appear, from the definition of form as 'being able to be transformed' to the definition of omniscience as 'manifesting all aspects,' including essence, existence and non-existence, one and different, knowable and knower, expressible and expressing, and so on, are all conventional (140b) from form to omniscience. These are not established as being different from the discriminating ignorance, nor are they the same as ignorance itself. If not examined, it is pleasing as a single, unexamined state, but if examined slightly, it is merely a collection of causes, conditions, and interdependent origination. It has no inherent reality, because it follows the terms of expression and conceptual thought. It is merely a name, merely a sign, merely a term, merely a concept, merely an imputation. If examined very well, then those phenomena from form to omniscience are primordially...

All elaborations and signs are completely pacified. It is not that elaborations are pacified by the sight of the noble ones, nor that elaborations are pacified by reasoning, nor that elaborations are pacified by emptiness. The dharmas that are found in the minds of those who have not analyzed or have analyzed only a little are called conventional. But that which is found by very well analyzing and by the equipoise of the noble ones is called ultimate. Therefore, even for one thing like a pot, children find endless imputations of essence and distinctions, and this is conventional. But the noble ones do not see any of these things anywhere, and they see in a way that they do not see anything at all, and this is called seeing the ultimate. Therefore, these two truths are not different in meaning, but are distinguished separately depending on whether the mind is deluded or not deluded. The distinction is also made because in the minds of children, everything that children see is established as false and deceptive (141a), so it is conventional. Everything that children see and impute, the noble ones do not see at all, so that which the noble ones do not see and do not find is established as existing in reality, so it is ultimate. Therefore, both of these two truths are spoken in dependence on the minds of children and out of necessity. It is not that the noble ones see the two truths and that they exist as two. As it is said in the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning: "Not seeing this reality, the world and nirvana, falsely think of distinctions." It is like that. In disagreement with this view, the great Dolpopa says: The Samdhinirmocana Sutra and the later treatises of the Maitreya teachings, and the treatises of the Asanga brothers, while accepting the definitive meaning of the Great Madhyamaka as it is, do not regard the mere absence of self and the mere absence of essence of phenomena as the ultimate truth. They assert that there is suchness that is different in meaning from phenomena, and they say that the two truths are different in meaning. This contradicts even the scriptures that they themselves have accepted as definitive meaning. Not to mention that it contradicts the scriptures of definitive meaning such as the Prajnaparamita Sutra, and the teachings of Nagarjuna and his sons and their followers. This is like the Sravaka schools from the Sthavira Nikaya to the Sautrantika, and from the Carvaka to the
