I believe that this entirely originated from the compassion and blessings of the two great Black Ones (Tibetan: ནག་པོ་ཆེན་པོ་, meaning: great black one). Up to this point, these were the words spoken by Je Rinpoche (Tsongkhapa), and I have written them down. Afterwards, I have written down without distortion what he occasionally said to me in the manner of casual conversation. I asked the precious Lama, since you had vowed not to cease practice until you had attained the first Bhumi, have you manifested the wisdom of the noble ones? He replied, 'Ah, that kind of thing has not happened. If I have practiced until now, it seems that I have only been arguing about tenets. Hoping to benefit the teachings, I pretended to teach Dharma to others, but I was obstructed.' At that time, he did not admit it, but in reality, there is no doubt that he had manifested the wisdom of the noble ones. Je Rinpoche himself said, 'When I first practiced, coarse afflictions were still present in my mindstream, but now not even the imprints remain.' He explained the reason for this and his method of practice to me in the form of oral instructions. Je Rinpoche said, 'At first, I thought to keep the vows perfectly, so I did not eat after noon, and many days passed. Although I made great efforts, I did not find a friend who could teach me the good customs of Indian monks, so I did not become as perfect as the ancient monks. But to the best of my ability, I kept the rough precepts, including the seventeen root vows, and I became accustomed to being mindful even in my dreams. Knowing that the essence of vows is the ethics of renunciation, I generally developed renunciation for samsara, and understanding that the root of the Great Vehicle path lies in Bodhicitta, I cultivated my mind until I developed a genuine mind of exchanging self and others, even for enemies. I thought that hardship and perseverance were essential for practice, so I held all practices to the extreme. In connection with the practice of Chenrezig (Avalokiteśvara), I completed a hundred fasting retreats in one sitting. When I engaged in long-term practice, I sat without loosening my belt. At first, there were many internal and external obstacles to practice, especially many lice, so that I felt I could take a handful from my clothes at one time. Not to mention meat and alcohol, even the butter I had was only used for lamps.' Je Rinpoche also said, 'Like the great holy beings of the past, such as Jetsun Milarepa, I experienced many hardships.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thinking about the actions of the Guru, I generated the determination to abandon body and life, and through prostrations and mandala offerings, I endured all sufferings and cultivated patience. As a result, the skin of most parts of my body broke and became ulcerated, and my body became very weak. When my mother went to the hole to deliver food, she couldn't bear to cry when she saw me, and I myself found it very difficult to endure. At this time, like the Gelugpa siddha Jamyang Dän, combining a hundred thousand confession texts, according to the biography at the time of prostration, I thought that if sentient beings in the three lower realms have to suffer meaninglessly, why can't I endure these for the benefit of all sentient beings? I trained my mind in this way. These sufferings are illusions of my own mind. Because the nature of the mind is nothing at all, in the view of samsara and nirvana being inseparable, there isn't even the name of suffering. I practiced with such a view. In order to achieve Buddhahood in one lifetime, I realized that it is necessary to have instructions with four perfections, like the Lamdré (Path with its Result) of the oral transmission. Because I couldn't find someone to ask about the key to these profound oral instructions, I prayed for a long time, visualizing the wisdom form of all the Buddhas, inseparable from the great Sakya Paṇḍita and the root Guru. As a result, I gained unshakable and firm conviction in all knowledge, especially in the profound oral transmission teachings of the Sakya school. The doctrine of the Second Buddha, the glorious Sakya school, is a system that gathers all the practices of the teachings into one, guiding all beings of high and low capacity. According to this system, one must gradually learn view, meditation, and conduct. Therefore, I studied in detail the view—the meaning of the inseparability of samsara and nirvana, mainly based on the intention of the teachings in the root verses and commentaries of the Ratnagotravibhāga (Uttaratantra Shastra, Treatise on the Buddha-nature); and the practice—the writings of the lineage Gurus and Jetsun (venerable) Gurus, as well as the Hevajra (喜金刚) teachings, all those translated from India to Tibet, now preserved in the Tanjur (藏文大藏经论疏部); and all the excellent explanations of the great beings of the Sakya, Ngor, and Tsar families. I observed and contemplated these for a long time. During practice, I made detailed analyses of all the subtle and gross points, such as the object to be purified, the means of purification, and the method of purification, so that they no longer remained merely in books, but were truly understood and put into practice. Even though each practice session lasted about half a day, I did not do it carelessly, but combined recitation and meditation, focusing single-mindedly on the object. I first developed confidence in the generation stage. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
