It is said that even the collections of afflictions flee together, pulling each other along, which is a description of the qualities of awareness. Like this, the mind is the nature of samsara, which constantly generates thoughts, therefore it is said that there is no mind on the mind. The nature of mind itself is the nature of nirvana, which is free from all elaborations, therefore the nature of mind is luminosity. This is an explanation of the reality of the essence in a way that is established by reason. Like this, by taking awareness as the path, one will quickly be liberated from the prison of afflictions and samsara. This is the content above. Root verse: Thus fleeing from the prison of afflictions, Definitely liberating the oral instruction division, A special dharma different from others, Others, Hearers and Solitary Realizers abandon afflictions, Bodhisattvas subdue with antidotes, General Mantra sends the path, Mind Division liberates in nature, Space Division purifies into one Dharmata, In the expanse of awareness, self-establishment is destroyed, how wonderful! This means that, like this, by fleeing from the place of suffering, one obtains the power to definitely liberate from the prison of afflictions, and one should know that this is a special dharma of the Great Perfection Oral Instruction Division. In other schools, Hearers abandon what is to be abandoned through body and speech, Solitary Realizers block from the mind, Bodhisattvas first subdue with antidotes, in general, Mantra turns everything into the path according to its own system, Mind Division considers the mind to be real and desires to liberate both samsara and nirvana in their nature, Space Division purifies all dharmas that arise from the activity of mind into one Dharmata, and so on. When the Oral Instruction Division measures, all of these are wonderful in that self-establishment is destroyed in the expanse of awareness, which is said with a slightly dissatisfied tone. Furthermore, for this Ati Yoga path that definitely liberates from conceptual thoughts and afflictions, afflictions and delusions suddenly appear in the sky like clouds and in the ocean like waves, but they have never existed in the nature of awareness from the beginning, therefore one does not abandon them like Hearers and Solitary Realizers. The object to be abandoned and the antidote are of the same essence, so one does not subdue with antidotes like Bodhisattvas. The mind stream is simultaneous, so one does not turn it into the path like general Mantra. Because mind cannot see mind, one does not liberate it in its nature like Mind Division. Because wisdom cannot see mind, one does not hold it as an ornament like Space Division, but rather awareness becomes a phenomenon in the state of Dharmata.

Emptiness of self-nature and emptiness of other-nature of phenomena, so that all philosophical tenets and desired views of the mind cannot be established, and self-liberation vanishes without a trace, is the view of the Great Perfection Mind Series. Root text: Likewise, the basis of all (ālaya) and the Dharmakāya are two, though one in the expanse, the Dharmakāya is like an ocean. The consciousness of the basis of all is its obscuration, floating in both samsara and nirvana like a boat. From that very ground, the nature of delusion and liberation also, are like falling asleep and awakening from it. Delusion is like the deep sleep of impaired senses, liberation is like the state of awakening from it. That is to say, the essence of Dharmakāya, pristine awareness, is not something to be reversed in any way, because the ultimate ground of liberation exists, so it is similar to awakening from sleep. The nature of the basis of all is like falling asleep. Because it becomes the support for the arising of delusion and various dreams, it is an impurity to be purified, so one must awaken from it. That is also divided into: the basis of all of essential meaning, the basis of all of application meaning, the basis of all of habitual body, and the basis of all of various habits, so its distinct characteristics should be understood. Therein, the reason for applying the term 'basis of all' is that because it retains the former, it is habit; because it takes up the latter, it is maturation, the order of cause and effect maturing successively; because it is the combination of happiness and suffering, it is called the 'basis of all'. Therefore, asserting the basis of all to be the Dharmakāya is prohibited even in the common vehicle, let alone in the unsurpassed secret vehicle. Therefore, the basis of all possesses the eight aggregates, so conceptual thought with grasping is an obscuration to wisdom. The characteristic of wisdom is concordant with the Dharmakāya, each being the nature of self-awareness, transcending the self-arising state of thoughts and concepts, the phenomena of samsara. Root text: The initially indeterminate, spontaneously present ground, and the ultimately liberating, primordially pure, stainless two, though one in essence, are the basis of subsequent delusion. It is crucial to know the difference between what can and cannot be done. This means that the initially indeterminate, spontaneously present ground is the blueprint for both samsara and nirvana, and the ultimately liberating, primordially pure is the transformation of spontaneous presence into the energy of awareness. Abandoning ignorance, the qualities of the expanse are perfected, therefore, the essence of the two is self-
