Etc. In general, in order to occupy the land, one prostrates to all the Buddhas by reciting "Om prana mami sarva tathagatanam" (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་པྲ་ཎ་མ་མི་སརྦ་ཏ་ཐཱ་ག་ཏཱ་ན་, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओम् प्रण ममि सर्व तथागतानाम्, Sanskrit Romanization: om prana mami sarva tathagatanam, Literal Chinese meaning: Om, prostration, I, all, Tathagatas). With a compassionate mind, one looks at those who have fallen under ignorance and demonic power. In order to eliminate them, one holds the vajra and bell, rising with the pride of a wrathful deity. The right and left eyes are the sun and moon, and flames blaze from the pupils, looking in all directions. With the song of "Hum" and the vajra steps, one revolves like a giant, and from under the feet, rays of light like the fire at the end of an eon emerge. Thinking that this disperses the harmful ones, one raises the vajra and bell to the height of the arm, along with the seal of the skull staff, the wheel, the arrow, the iron hook, the rope, etc. While striking, one recites the main mantra, or it is said that reciting Sumbhani (Tibetan: སུཾ་བྷ་ནི) to expel the demons is also sufficient. Then, the base for making the mandala is smeared with incense and the five ambrosias, and offerings of flowers, incense, etc., are made from the corners of the doors. Like covering the base with ashes, one recites the main mantra of the deity being practiced and the hundred-syllable mantra seven times, contemplating the realization, and the expanding and contracting are all methods of occupying the land. Fifth, with such actions, those who do not adhere to the vows and harbor malicious thoughts are summoned and pinned down with the phurba of the ten wrathful deities, which is called protecting the land. Thus, examining the land, taking the soil, etc., are four or five branches. There are also four preparations: examining the land, the preparation of the peaceful deity, the vase, and the preparation of the disciple. Among these, the mandala, if one is wealthy, can be drawn as large as a yojana (an ancient Indian unit of distance, approximately 11-16 kilometers), and if small, it can be drawn as small as the palm of the hand, or it can be drawn in the mind. Having drawn it in this way, the detailed drawing methods of the lines, the thread, and the colors, etc., are omitted because there are too many words. In general, the original line must be drawn on both the sky and the ground. Because the original line is drawn first, in order to reveal the illusory mandala as it appears in a mirror, which is the second image of the mandala of self-existing wisdom that has been cleared away, this is done, and it is in accordance with the fact that the basis of the three kayas is also the dharmakaya, which is free from elaboration, and from that radiance, the sambhogakaya appears, and from that, the nirmanakaya appears. The line is for determining the characteristics of the mandala, so according to the teachings of the early and later translations, there are many different arrangements of the mandala, so one should follow one's own treatise.

This is necessary. Generally, both the preparation of the deity and the preparation of the vase follow the scriptures, but specifically, the vase substances are: barley, rice, wheat, sesame, cardamom, these five are the five grains. Saffron, musk, nutmeg, white sandalwood and red sandalwood are the five fragrances. Gold, ruby, pearl, coral, turquoise, these five are the five precious substances. Salt, honey, molasses, sesame oil are the five essences. Kantakari, Sletres, white sweet flag, crocodile claws, and Potentilla fruticosa are the five medicines. These twenty-five are common to the outer and inner tantras. On top of that, the thirty-five substances added with the five meats and five elixirs are only for the Unsurpassed Yoga Tantra. First, the twenty-five are sequentially poured into the vase with the mantras of the five Buddhas—Vairochana, Amitabha, Amoghasiddhi, Ratnasambhava, Akshobhya, and Vairocana. The five elixirs of the Unsurpassed Yoga Tantra are poured in with ཨོཾ་པཉྩ་ཨ་མྲྀ་ཏ་ཨཱཿཧཱུཾ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: ॐ पञ्चामृत आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ pañcāmṛta āḥ hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om, five, nectar, ah, hum), and the five meats are poured in with ཨོཾ་པཉྩ་མཱཾ་ས་ཨཱཿཧཱུཾ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: ॐ पञ्च मांस आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ pañca māṃsa āḥ hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om, five, meat, ah, hum). The neck cord symbolizes the three bodies in the outer tantras, therefore there are three life threads, and in the Unsurpassed Yoga Tantra, it symbolizes the five bodies, therefore there are five life threads, and it is also said to be seven in order to symbolize the wisdom of bliss and emptiness. In the outer three tantras, Durva grass is used as decoration, and some Indian texts say to use trees such as amra, and some Vajrakilaya tantras say to use pine stumps, and it is also said to be a fierce substance, and it is also said to be decorated with good branches, so it is not just identified as Durva grass, but it should also be known to be divided into two types: grass and tree branches. Purification is, according to the outer tantras, the external shape, color, decoration, and neck cord of the vase, the conch shell mouth, fragrant water, water offerings decorated with white पुषपे(Tibetan, Devanagari: पुष्पे, Romanized Sanskrit: puṣpe, Literal meaning: flower), etc., and objects that appear externally such as amulets, vajras, and garlands of flowers, symbolize the Nirmanakaya. By pouring in the twenty-five essences, the accumulation of merit of sentient beings is completed, and enjoyment increases, thus symbolizing the Sambhogakaya, and the cool nature inside the vase pacifies the suffering of afflictions, thus symbolizing the Dharmakaya. Meditating on the deity is the Svabhavikakaya, symbolizing the four bodies, therefore the dharmas of Bodhi are naturally complete. According to the inner tantras, the vase is the abode of the deity, and all the decorations such as ornaments are symbols of great compassion, the five medicines are the mind of great compassion and Bodhi, the five grains are the nature of the deity, the five precious substances are the five lights of the body, the five essences are the sphere of wisdom mind, and incense etc. are the qualities of discipline.
