So, the difference between vows and precepts is that all the parts that cannot be transgressed, such as making aspirations and entering, are vows, and all the parts that must be taken or abandoned after considering what is allowed and forbidden are established as precepts. Actually, the essence is one, although there is no place where it is established as two on the mind, but the vows and precepts are distinguished in different ways by the discriminating mind. Root verse: The common essence of all is obtaining the mantra precepts, if the mind of madness, etc., does not abide in its own nature, then there is no downfall or accomplishment. Those who have the mantra precepts and do not destroy or abandon them, and whose awareness naturally abides, are the containers of both downfall and accomplishment. This is to say that, like this, for those individuals who are the basis, for those who are not bound by precepts, from the aspect of the naturally occurring transgressions, there is neither accomplishment nor downfall. For the common essence of all new and old mantras, for those who have not obtained the mantra precepts, and even if they have obtained them, for those whose minds do not abide in their own nature due to madness and karmic obscurations, etc., there is neither downfall nor accomplishment. If one obtains the four empowerments properly, then one has obtained the mantra precepts. For those who have obtained them in this way, who truly possess them and do not destroy them, and who do not abandon them with a discriminating mind, whose awareness naturally abides and is not defiled by faults, then this will become the container of both the downfall of destruction and the accomplishment of protection. Root verse: The root downfall other than the mind of enlightenment, called Kuti, still doing that thing, not wanting to return, he has no regret. Not considering one's own shame, not considering the shame of others, the motivation of the three dharmas being complete, ultimately leading to the completion of the action, if it continues constantly, then that is the complete failure of Kuti. If there is no interruption of time, no continuousness, or if any one of the three dharmas is not complete, the limb of the action is not complete, it will become a gross transgression. This is to say that, for the root downfall of the Bodhisattva, it has already been determined in that category, and here the way to combine it as a limb of the mantra downfall is that the fifth, abandoning the mind of enlightenment, does not depend on Kuti, and for the other thirteen, no matter which transgression it is, one is doing that thing, and does not want to return from it, and regrets the faults of that transgression, not considering one's own shame, and not considering the shame of others, and on top of that, whatever transgression it is

If one is constantly attached to what is pleasing and satisfying, which is the ultimate goal pursued by the four types of aspirations, it constitutes a complete entanglement, which is very serious. During the period (of transgression), if one feels regret for any wrongdoing before it reaches its end, or if one feels ashamed of oneself, or feels embarrassed in front of others, and stops the wrongdoing, then the branches of the wrongdoing are incomplete, and it becomes a gross transgression. Therefore, one should abandon the thought that "the root downfalls of mantra are numerous and easy to occur, and difficult to guard," and it is very important to be accompanied by confession and vows. Root (Verse): Therefore, all the roots and branches of what should be known, One should not abandon with the mind, nor discard with the body. Divide the day and night into six parts, In each part, for the fourteen root downfalls, Examine whether one has committed them or not. If one has committed them, generate regret and strive to remedy. If one has not committed them, cultivate joy and dedicate the merit. Whether one has committed them before or not, In the future, even if one's life is at stake, one should not commit misdeeds, and one should highly value guarding the vows. Whenever, in any of the six time periods, If one becomes confused about the idea of examining (downfalls), Then what is called a gross transgression will occur. If all six periods pass, it will become six gross transgressions. If one fails to complete the remedy within that day, Then, with the appearance of the first ray of dawn on the following day, It is said that it will become twelve gross transgressions. This also applies to branch vows. It means that for the root and branch vows that should be understood, one should not abandon them with the mind, nor discard them with the body. If one does not understand in this way, it is a gate to downfalls. Therefore, one should always observe one's mind with mindfulness. Moreover, a transgression related to the body becomes a downfall once it is completed, a transgression of speech becomes a downfall once it is understood by others, and a transgression of mind becomes a root downfall if it is not prevented by an antidote in each session. In general, since the mind becomes an accomplice to body and speech, one divides a day and night into six periods, and in each period, along with reciting the confession text of the fourteen root downfalls, one carefully examines whether one has committed them or not, rather than just thinking about it casually. One should carefully count them, such as this and that. If one is stained by transgressions, one should generate regret, and
