Root downfalls from transgressing vows and other minor offenses should be confessed by confessing the offenses in the presence of a person. If an object of confession is not found, then confess and restrain yourself by making the buddhas and their offspring the object of focus. Root: Four cognitions to be protected in terms of stability. To the virtuous friend, the cognition of a buddha; to the Dharma taught by him, the cognition of a path; to those who practice it, the cognition of a friend; and to all sentient beings, the cognition of a single child. These are the correct trainings of aspiration. That is, there are four cognitions to be protected in terms of stabilizing the generation of the maturing bodhicitta: to the virtuous friend, the cognition of a buddha; to the Dharma taught by him, the cognition of a path; to those who practice it, the cognition of a friend; and to all sentient beings, the cognition of a single child; these four are the correct trainings of aspiration. Root: The trainings for entering are the six perfections. The first five are the supreme accumulation of merit, and the last one is the great accumulation of wisdom. Without relying on these two, there is no buddhahood. Adding skillful means, power, aspiration, and wisdom makes ten. Thus, the six perfections are the accumulation of virtue and, for those living at home, patience, generosity, and ethics. Ethics is virtuous friendship, meaning turning away from evil. The main part of accumulating virtue is discipline and the resulting samadhi and other superior intentions. They are divided into ten in relation to the antidotes to the obscurations to be abandoned: miserliness, immorality, anger, laziness, distraction, dull wisdom, lack of skillful means obscuring power, failure to fulfill aspirations being an obscuration of wisdom, and these are the ten. According to the six, the five, such as generosity, are merit, and wisdom is the accumulation of wisdom. Therefore, what is to be accomplished by the Mahayanist is not abiding in samsara through the wisdom that realizes suchness, and not abiding in nirvana through skillful means connected with great compassion, which is called non-abiding nirvana. Root: The three bodhisattvas who accomplish through intelligence, power, and might. The one who first benefits himself and then wishes to liberate beings is the bodhicitta of great desire like a king; the one who wishes to liberate himself and beings simultaneously is the heart of supreme wisdom like a boatman; the one who first liberates beings and then wishes for peace

Like a protector, the unsurpassed mind of enlightenment. Inferior individuals are liberated in countless thirty-three kalpas, intermediate individuals in seven kalpas, and superior individuals in three kalpas. Thus, the three types of Bodhisattvas who accomplish their goals through the power of their small, medium, and great faculties are: The dull-witted, who prioritize their own benefit and desire to liberate those who repeatedly transmigrate, have a great mind of aspiration like a king. Those who liberate themselves and others simultaneously, desiring to attain Buddhahood, are like a boatman and a guest crossing a river together, which is called the supreme mind of wisdom. Those who liberate all beings first, meaning they do not seek their own benefit until all sentient beings are established in the state of Buddhahood, and afterwards desire to attain peace themselves, are like a protector, which is an unsurpassed mind of enlightenment. The dull-witted, who first attain Buddhahood for themselves and then desire to benefit sentient beings, require countless thirty-three kalpas. The intermediate, who desire to attain Buddhahood simultaneously with themselves and others, also require countless seven kalpas by practicing the sacred Dharma. The great, who do not seek their own benefit until all sentient beings are established in the state of Buddhahood, require countless three kalpas to attain Buddhahood. As it is said, even after generating the supreme mind of enlightenment, training in the precepts, and perfecting their abilities, they continue to benefit beings in the manner of a tenth-level Bodhisattva, not attaining Buddhahood as long as samsara remains, like the three protectors of the lineage (Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani). Here, in the path of the Vinaya and Mantras, one first takes vows and then can practice the precepts together. However, in the path of the Bodhisattva, one first understands the precepts, and then, when faith arises and one is able to practice, one takes the precepts correctly. Thus it is said. Explaining the characteristics of the Perfection of Giving: Root: The essence of giving is non-attachment. It is divided into three: Dharma giving, material giving, and fearlessness giving. Material giving also has three aspects: giving, great giving, and supreme giving. Giving is defined as giving food, clothing, vehicles, elephants, lands, and realms to others. Great giving is giving away sons, daughters, and family. Supreme giving is giving away one's head and limbs in difficult situations. Thus, the essence of giving is non-attachment, which is the antidote to clinging and attachment to one's own possessions. It is divided into Dharma giving and material giving.
