It is the method to attain clairvoyance. The greatest obstacles to such meditation must be abandoned, namely, delighting in and clinging to the objects to be worked on, idle talk, sleep, and seeking noise, as well as delighting in and clinging to forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects with thought and examination. Having abandoned these, one should strive to prevent the mind from wandering and practice common meditation. Root verse: The preliminary stage of the first dhyana has thinking and examining. The actual state has no thinking but only examining. The remaining three have neither thinking nor examining. The former acts as the preliminary stage for the latter. It is known as the basis of the noble path. That is to say, of the two practices of form and formlessness, the former includes the four dhyanas of learners and ordinary beings, as well as their preliminary stages and absorptions. Since it is not accompanied by aspirational mind, it is the cause of existence, the feeling of equanimity, and the thought that 'it is like this,' and the examination of it, which together constitute the preliminary stage of the first dhyana, that is, preparation. That is, having transcended desire realm attachment and sinful dharmas, experiencing thinking, examining, joy, and bliss is the first dhyana, and although there is no thought of 'it is like this,' the mental examination is the special mind of the first dhyana. That is, having abandoned both thinking and examining, although not possessing previous attachment, joy and complete delight are the second dhyana. Having abandoned the attachment of the second dhyana, joy, equanimity, and non-separation from mindfulness are the third dhyana. Furthermore, having abandoned the attachment of the third dhyana, the thinking and examining of both joy and suffering are abandoned, and remaining with mindfulness is the fourth dhyana. The later dhyanas are made preliminary by the earlier dhyanas. Similarly, the four formless absorptions and the nine successive absorptions are merely the basis of the noble path. Root verse: The meditation that generates all qualities is seized by compassion and supreme wisdom. Possessing many samadhis, accomplishing all aspects, abandoning the grasping and the grasped of the single substance of mind. The subsequent attainment arising from samadhi is vast, and exists universally up to the seventh ground. That is to say, the Great Vehicle

All the qualities of meditation that generate all virtues are held by compassion and supreme wisdom, endowed with many samadhis, and accomplish everything. Holding the essence of mind as both samatha and vipassana, abandoning the grasped and the grasper, and when arising from samatha, the post-meditation is vast and boundless, indicating that the distinction of distraction is universally present up to the seventh bhumi. Moreover, since all the doors of samadhi are summarized by the union of shamatha and vipassana, vipassana without stable shamatha is like a candle in the wind. Mere shamatha without vipassana cannot cut off all obscurations, just as the shamatha of the four dhyanas and the formless absorptions causes wandering in the peak of existence. Among these, shamatha stops the mind's movement caused by the wind of conceptualization. Vipassana suppresses the evil views of opponents such as ignorance and fear, and cannot be deceived by evil doctrines and the unstated. Among these, the Shravakas have more samadhi and less wisdom. Bodhisattvas are the opposite, and Buddhas have both equally, thus seeing everything. Therefore, when one is in a state of perfect equanimity, phenomena are clear and luminous like the sky, and the aspect of understanding is flawless vipassana. The sharp, analytical thinking of a distracted mind with various objects is not the wisdom of individual self-awareness. Among these, profound wisdom that does not cling to the center or even the center of all dualistic phenomena, and the great compassion that arises from its power and focuses on beings, is the means. In samatha, the essence of meditation is shamatha, and the wisdom of vipassana, which is the essence of wisdom, accomplishes the two accumulations. If the perfection of diligence is bound as the bond of both, then it is said that this meditation accomplishes all supreme qualities. This itself is inseparable from the six perfections. Now, the fruit of the five perfections, the perfection of wisdom, is explained. Root verse: The definitive discernment of the superior wisdom training arises from the practice of samadhi, or the wisdom arising from the entity and the subsequent, or from listening, thinking, and meditating, with the three wisdoms, correct vipassana is accomplished. This is clear about the Dharma.
