Harsh words pierce the hearts of others, connecting with causes of unpleasantness. Falsehood, in essence, is completed by four branches: the basis of speech is not mistaken; the intention to deceive others is held in mind and untrue words are spoken; and the understanding of the matter is altered. Furthermore, making definitive statements about matters of doubt, even when uncertain, is also considered falsehood. Boasting about hidden qualities, such as claiming to possess virtues and clairvoyance without having transcended ordinariness in terms of one's guru or personal practice, is known as a great lie—the lie of a guru who is an ordinary person. One should also understand how to differentiate the magnitude of falsehoods based on whether or not they harm others. Slander is completed by three branches: the basis of division is someone who is harmonious or neutral; slanderous words are spoken; and ultimately, the meaning is understood. Among these, forceful slander is direct division, hidden slander is secret division, and biased slander is causing division by making the basis of division happy. Idle talk has two branches: the desire to speak words that are not in accordance with the Dharma, and speaking them. In short, all speech that is not in accordance with reality, spoken out of attachment or aversion, is categorized as idle talk. Harsh speech is completed by three branches: specifically targeting the person who is the object of speech; expressing their faults and other such words; and ultimately making them unhappy. It can be divided into direct harshness and indirect harshness. Root (Verses): Greed, the first of the three mental actions, Covets the wealth and glory of others, claiming it as one's own. Opportunistically desires and indulges in the possessions of others. Harmful intent provokes anger and incites harm towards others. Opportunistically contemplates separation from those connected by benefit. Wrong view sees no cause and effect, or holds to permanence or annihilation. Opportunistically imputes existence to the non-existent, and denies the existent. As stated above, greed has two branches: the object of greed is another's property, and generating greed towards it. The meaning is to covet the wealth and enjoyment of others, thinking, "If only these were mine," or "If only I could obtain them," thus generating arrogance. Harmful intent has two branches: knowing the object to be harmed, and generating harmful intent towards that object. It possesses four characteristics: the desire to harm and torment, the anger of holding grudges without expressing them, and the pride that is devoid of patience.

The mind of anger that thinks of killing or beating that person, and the mind of ignorance that does not consider shame and faults at all. Wrong view has two branches: having a reversed thought about the unerring nature of cause and effect, and not wanting happiness and suffering to ripen as the result of good and evil. The root is: The way in which everything ripens into four fruits, namely, the fully ripened fruit, the fruit similar to the cause, the dominant fruit, and the fruit of action. Therefore, there are four fruits: the fully ripened fruit, the fruit similar to the cause, the dominant fruit, and the fruit of action. The root is: The fully ripened fruit has five qualities, and it is not like that. With the small actions of the three defilements, one is thrown into the animal realm; with the medium actions, one is thrown into the hungry ghost realm; with the great actions, one is thrown into the hell realm. Like this, the fully ripened fruit has five qualities, which means the mind that is completely aroused by any of the three poisons, and the action that follows, the basis of the action is that thought itself, the result of the action is the actual action itself, and the final rejoicing. If these five qualities are complete, then the non-virtuous action is completed. That is, if one practices these ten non-virtuous actions in a small way, and does it only out of ignorance, one will be reborn as an animal; if one practices in a medium way, and does it out of desire, one will be reborn as a hungry ghost; if one practices in a great way, and does it out of hatred, one will be born in hell, etc. These are briefly summarized from the Sutra on the Establishment of Mindfulness. Killing one's own parents and Arhats is the most heinous act of killing; stealing the property of the Three Jewels is the most heinous act of stealing; engaging in sexual misconduct with one's mother and Arhat female is the most heinous act of sexual misconduct; slandering the Buddhas is the most heinous act of lying; creating division in the Sangha is the most heinous act of divisive speech; speaking unpleasant words to the noble ones is the most heinous act of harsh speech; distracting those who desire the Dharma is the most heinous act of idle talk; presuming to steal the food and wealth of the rightly established is the most heinous act of covetousness; having malicious thoughts towards those who commit the five heinous crimes is the most heinous act of malice; holding one's own view as supreme is the most heinous act of wrong view. The root is: The fruit similar to the cause has two aspects, namely, the acting similar to the cause and the experiencing similar to the cause. That is, there are two here, the acting similar to the cause and the experiencing similar to the cause. The first is: In this life, one spends time only with non-virtue, the acting similar to the cause, even if one temporarily obtains a body in the higher realms or as a human, one will still continue...
