Like the sound arising from the earth and the echo from a rock, If there is no self-nature, there is no realm of harm. Look to the calling of past actions as conditions. This means that in this present time, the causes and effects of harm are limitless, but they also arise from self-nature. Just as hearing a sound is mistaken for an echo from a rock, if there is no self-nature, then the elements of harm, such as the four elements, have no mind, so there is no benefit or harm to them. Likewise, rely on the power of self-grasping and past actions as conditions, like being called, and you will understand. A person with patience has no enemies in the next life, no separation of harmony, no increase in happiness and unhappiness, dies without regret, and will be born in the realm of gods in the happy realm. Root text: If examined, it is not a great harm, but a great benefit, for relying on what, one obtains the boat of patience and the wish-fulfilling jewel of bodhicitta, such harm should be worshiped like the holy Dharma. This means that if anger and so on are not examined, they seem like the cause and condition of great harm, but if examined well, it is not so, but becomes a great benefit as an object of cultivating patience. Relying on what, one enters the practice of patience, like a boat crossing the ocean of samsara, and one will surely obtain the wish-fulfilling jewel of bodhicitta. Therefore, whoever causes such harm should be worshiped like the holy Dharma. For example, in the past, Jowo Je (Atisha) took an acharya with great anger as a servant, saying, "I need this very much as a support for patience." Root text: If examined very closely, the nature of harm has no characteristics, like a drawing in water. The moment the rough appearance of conceptual anger is destroyed, it is empty like the sky, with no gain or loss. This means that if examined very closely, the mind itself is grasped as self, even though it is without self, and appearance is grasped as other, even though it is without other. Because of this condition, the appearance of benefit and harm arises, but when examining the nature, there is no such thing as an object with such characteristics. For example, even if a drawing is made in water, it immediately disappears on its own. In the moment when the manifestation of conceptual anger is destroyed like a wave of water, the object of anger and the self who is angry both become empty like the sky, and there is no gain.

And beyond the words of loss. Root text: If the three hardships of patience decline, The other five perfections, such as generosity, are also Like a path surrounded by enemies on the outside, It is difficult to reach the desired state, so generate strength of mind. This is because the three hardships of patience are: enduring hardships for the sake of Dharma, patience that does not mind the harm of others, and patience that is not afraid of profound meanings. If these three decline, the other five perfections, such as generosity, are also like a path surrounded by enemies on the outside, without ease, it is difficult to reach the state of liberation and omniscience, so it is very important to generate great strength of mind in the supreme state of enlightenment. The Bhagavan said that anger destroys the merit accumulated for thousands of kalpas and burns the roots of virtue of both oneself and others, so hatred and anger should be abandoned. Root text: With diligence that does not pass the time, In self-mastery, all virtuous dharmas, Like a swan walking in a garden, Enter without being abandoned on the cliff of laziness. This means that whenever the thought of practicing virtue arises, one should not delay, procrastinate, or pass the time, but diligently strive, not just in words, but from the depths of one's heart, freely practice all virtuous dharmas with the power of diligence, just like a swan joyfully and freely walking or entering a garden. One should not fall into the cliff of obstacles due to laziness and carelessness, that is, practice without forgetting the thought of virtue. Root text: Bad deeds are entangled by the ropes of busyness, The power of laziness suppresses, and the ability of effort is also abandoned, Despising oneself and becoming discouraged, taking up a false livelihood, Such a person rides on the ship of sin. This means that due to laziness and idleness, the acceptance and rejection of the six perfections are reversed, clinging to bad deeds, busyness is entangled by the ropes of various worldly affairs, just like being entangled by ropes, cultivating virtuous dharmas becomes a burden, thinking that one is incapable due to faults, being suppressed by the power of laziness, also abandoning the effort of diligence, despising oneself, thinking that one cannot achieve enlightenment, becoming discouraged, taking up a false livelihood.
