Having liberated from the cycle of existence, adapting to the faculties and nature of beings, prioritizing the welfare of others through whatever means are suitable for taming them. Although renunciants should not seek and accumulate wealth and possessions to engage in generosity, if wealth and possessions arise naturally as a result of past generosity, it is not wrong to use them for offerings and generosity. Why? Because in the past, the noble Nagarjuna provided sustenance for many monks, and the teacher Shura, due to past merit, acquired vast wealth daily and used it to support the livelihood of all the monks. Similarly, all the perfections of generosity are said to encompass six kinds of excellence: relying on the mind of enlightenment as the basis is the excellent basis; whatever is given, whether general or specific, not abandoning that intention is the excellent object; giving for the immediate and ultimate benefit of all sentient beings is the excellent purpose; being seized by non-conceptual wisdom is the excellent skillful means; dedicating the merit of giving to complete enlightenment is the excellent dedication; being seized by the purity that prevents the two obscurations of affliction and knowledge is the excellent purity. Therefore, the methods of learning the supreme generosity are to temporarily make it an object of aspiration, and without any miserliness, inferiority, or harmful intent towards body, enjoyment, and all possessions, to combine a vast mind of giving with the aspiration to attain enlightenment, which is the most supreme of all giving. Root text: The nature of ethics is vows that are not contradictory, Divided into vows of abstaining from evil, gathering virtuous dharmas, And benefiting beings, three aspects are explained. Restraining the three doors from unwholesome actions is the vow of abstaining from evil, Possessing the six perfections is the gathering of virtuous dharmas, Benefiting others is the action of benefiting beings. That is to say, restraining all that should be abandoned by the three doors, and having a firm intention to abandon even the basis of harming others, is the nature of ethics. In terms of classification, the vow of abstaining from evil is generally abandoning the ten non-virtuous actions, and specifically abandoning the seven evil actions of body and speech. The gathering of virtuous dharmas is practicing the virtuous actions such as the six perfections with four special characteristics of learning, which are: being separated from their respective opposing factors,

Accomplishing the wishes of others, being seized by the wisdom that does not discriminate in three ways. By its result, maturing disciples into the three enlightenments. The discipline of accumulating virtue abides in the essence of all six perfections, generating what has not arisen in one's own mind-stream, and increasing what has already arisen. The discipline of benefiting sentient beings is the mind and its associated mental factors that engage in the benefit of others in all ways, either directly or indirectly. To this end, one first skillfully gathers beings through material generosity, then guides the minds of those to be tamed with pleasing speech, and causes them to engage in the Dharma. Thus, one must also abide in the common goal of leading others onto the path by whatever means. Furthermore, the discipline of restraint protects the mind from non-virtue, the accumulation of virtue is the manifest accomplishment of the roots of virtue, and the discipline of benefiting sentient beings is to diligently benefit others. Root text: The Bodhicitta is superior to the Pratimoksha due to four distinctions. The Pratimoksha is merely the cessation of harming others and its basis, while the Bodhicitta adds benefit on top of that. The Pratimoksha encompasses seven abandonments, mainly of body and speech; the Bodhicitta mainly abandons all ten (non-virtues). Thus, the precepts of the Pratimoksha are included as one aspect of the training for those who possess the Bodhisattva vows. However, for monastics who do not have Bodhicitta, they cultivate the superior Dharma by adding training. Therefore, the Pratimoksha is merely the cessation of one's own misconduct, thereby ceasing harm to others and its basis; while the Bodhicitta adds benefit on top of not harming others, i.e., possessing all three: ceasing misconduct, accumulating virtue, and benefiting sentient beings. The Pratimoksha mainly focuses on the seven abandonments, three of the body and four of speech, while the Bodhicitta mainly focuses on all ten abandonments, along with intention. Root text: Especially in terms of training, in the case of the Pratimoksha, one does not violate the (precepts) established for the sake of others; if a Bodhisattva violates (them) for the sake of others, the seven non-virtues of body and speech, knowing that one is violating or will violate for the sake of others, and not concealing one's own accumulation of merit, and increasing it, are permitted in these three situations.
