Here concludes the sixth chapter of "The Jewel Key: A Concise Commentary on the Treasure of the Great Narinpo, Opener of the Door," titled 'Ocean Droplets.' Chapter Seven: Entering the Actual Practice of the Mahayana Having taken refuge in this way, entering the actual practice of the Mahayana: Root verse: In the pond of the Hinayana, the element of bodhichitta, the mind of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, degenerated from its lineage, is awakened by the power of the captain of emptiness and compassion, and goes to the ocean of the Mahayana, the island of omniscience. That is, without flowing into the field of benefiting others on the path of the Hinayana, in the abode of peace like stagnant water in a pond, the power of bodhichitta diminishes. Eventually, moved by the compassion of the Buddhas, the innate lineage awakens, and one must enter the path of the Mahayana. Therefore, for the wise, the entrance to the path is only the Mahayana. Having entered there, one goes to the island of omniscience. Root verse: The five aspects of generosity and other perfections, whose essence is not shown in the scriptures, are like iron ore, completely degenerated. When touched by the elixir of skillful means and wisdom, they instantly become of great value. This means that the five aspects of skillful means, such as generosity, are like iron ore that has not been shown in the scriptures to be great bodhi until they are grasped by wisdom. Furthermore, the union of skillful means, the mind of bodhi, and wisdom, emptiness, is like the elixir of alchemy. When touched by it, it instantly becomes the cause of attaining Buddhahood without error. Root verse: Therefore, the bodhichitta that unites the skillful means of compassion and the wisdom of emptiness, the foundation of the four immeasurables, arises from the two aspects of aspiration and engagement, and from learning the precepts. That is, compassion prevents the extreme of peace, and wisdom prevents the extreme of existence; both are stopped. Here, for beginners, the four immeasurables are like the foundation, and they arise from the two aspects of aspiration and engagement, and from learning the precepts. Root verse: The essence of loving-kindness is the desire for the happiness of others, like a loving mother to her child. One learns to benefit others and endure harm by abandoning one's body, possessions, and all virtues. That is, loving-kindness is to know that all beings in the high and low realms of samsara have the nature of parents, and to cherish them with the thought of mother and child, without any harm. This is the mind.

Loving-kindness focused on sentient beings, and the bodhisattvas between the first and seventh bhumis, although all dharmas are without inherent existence, these beings cling to things as real and experience suffering, benefiting these beings with the Dharma and striving to realize the nature of reality is focusing on the Dharma. The eighth bhumi and above is loving-kindness without focus, which, although free from conceptualization, is like a jewel. The great loving-kindness towards the realms of beings arises spontaneously due to the previous aspirations of the Buddhas, this is without focus. Therein, the essence of loving-kindness is the wish for others to be happy, and its example is like the love of a mother for her beloved child. Abandoning one's own body, possessions, virtue, etc., and only benefiting others, training to abandon wrong actions and endure harm. Therein, focusing on sentient beings is the same as the outsiders; focusing on the Dharma is similar to the Hearers and Solitary Realizers; being without focus is superior to these. Root text: The essence of compassion is the suffering of others, / The powerful mental strength of being unable to bear it, / Seeing all six realms, the cause and effect of suffering, / Driven to the end, causing tears to flow. That is to say, compassion arises for beings tormented by suffering, and for engaging in non-virtue, the cause of suffering, and for being ignorant of the three (what to adopt and abandon), and taking on the burden of their suffering oneself is the essence of compassion. Generating the powerful mental strength of being unable to bear their suffering, and bravely taking on the responsibility of benefiting them. Seeing all six realms engaging in the cause of suffering and experiencing the result of suffering, like a hunter driving prey to the end, generating unbearable compassion, causing tears to flow. Root text: The essence of joy is the perfection of others, / Entering with a joyful mind, contemplating good wishes for all, / Rejoicing in obtaining according to one's own ability, / Praying that in the future one will not be separated from it. That is to say, the essence of joy is that there is no unhappiness for others possessing wealth, Dharma, happiness, and prosperity, and with a joyful mind, contemplating good wishes for all beings to be so prosperous and happy, and also striving for the faultlessness of loving-kindness and compassion, striving to accomplish the benefit of beings, generating joy without arrogance. For the perfection of others' Dharma and wealth
