To say that the fruits of good and evil deeds, happiness and suffering, and future lives do not exist, like the heretics, is to hold wrong views and turn away from good deeds, which is a state of unfreedom. Root verse: In the eon abandoned by the Buddhas, falling into the dark abyss of gloom, even striving to rise again is in vain, for it is the usual wrong path, sinking lower and lower into the depths of misery. This means that the teachings of the thousand Buddhas of the Fortunate Aeon will remain as long as the light aeon lasts. When the teachings decline, it is like the dark aeon abandoned by the Buddhas, a dark abyss of gloom. Being born into such a state and entering the usual wrong path is like a person with a broken leg falling into a ravine at night, sinking lower and lower with no way to escape, which is a state of unfreedom. Furthermore, although it is not explicitly stated in the root text of this treatise, the commentary mentions that there are sixteen kinds of unfreedom even when one obtains a human body. As stated in the 'Wish-Fulfilling Jewel': The five poisons are turbulent, ignorance obscures, seized by demons, laziness abounds, evil deeds like a vast ocean overflow, controlled by others, fear oppresses, pretending to practice Dharma but acting contrary to it, and unexpected circumstances cause unfreedom. These are the eight obstacles to liberation, turning away from the Dharma and becoming an unsuitable vessel. This means that the five poisons are stronger than each other, like turbulent waves, which is used to describe a mind filled with negativity. One is foolish and ignorant, controlled by evil friends. Meeting evil demonic teachers leads to distorted views and actions. Although one has some interest in the Dharma, one lacks diligence and is lazy. The ocean of evil deeds overflows, referring to the occurrence of adverse conditions such as conflicts, hatred, and diseases, without mastering the key points, leading to interruptions. Although one has the intention to enter the Dharma gate, one's body and speech are controlled by others. Seeking protection only for livelihood and taxes, pretending to enter the Dharma, but focusing solely on non-Dharmic thoughts and actions. Although one's mind is contrary to the Dharma, one pretends to be a practitioner to please others in order to gain fame, profit, and status. All of these are states of unfreedom. Furthermore, it is said earlier: Bound by vows, conduct is extremely evil, not weary of samsara, with little faith, not engaging in virtuous deeds, committing sins, not thinking of the Dharma, with no intention, having broken vows and commitments, these are said to be cutting off hope, the eight kinds of unfreedom, the mind far from the Dharma, gradually moving away from the path of liberation.
