The pleasure grove was cleaned and adorned with decorations, a place where various jewels were displayed, and preparations were made for enjoyment. All the crowds gathered there to see it. The merchants came to the king in a distressed state and explained the reason for this. There, the Bhikshu Zizai (自在) was teaching, writing on a copper plate: 'This land is eroded and ruined by the sea. The king is the powerful Ashoka (无忧王). Those who are extremely strong and firm, who carry treasures and live in the sea, quickly bring them to my presence.' After writing this, he threw it into the sea, and the Dragon King threw it back to Jambudvipa. There, the messenger reported to the king. After understanding in his heart, the king pondered what method there was. Then a deity said that if he made offerings to the relics of the teacher, merit would increase and things would be accomplished. After saying this, the king washed his hair, put on white clothes, and, holding incense and garlands of flowers, etc., invited those who had attained the ten directions of magical powers, and made great sounds of supplication. At that time, sixty thousand Arhats and the Sangha of Bhikshus gathered, and great services such as holding umbrellas were performed. He offered immeasurable varieties of offerings, such as the five offerings to the relics of the Bhagavan. At that time, the king and the dragon made two images and placed them in golden vessels. By measuring the size of the merit, it was seen that the king was paying homage to the image of the dragon. The Bhikshu Zizai said, 'Continue to accumulate merit.' After the king gradually accumulated vast merit, he saw that all the limbs of the dragon were paying homage to the king. 'Alas! What is the result of offering to the Three Jewels? Look here. The dragon living in the sea, I have tamed and controlled it. O people of shallow wisdom, who would not make offerings to the Buddha? Who would not offer fruits? Who would not think with their heart? Gods and humans who desire to attain greatness, truly offer to the perfect Buddha, birth is exhausted and there is no rebirth.' Thus he spoke.
