Judging faults has immeasurable consequences. In the past, the monk Lekkar or Star Good, who was well-versed in the twelve divisions of scripture and enlightened, incurred sin by viewing the teacher with wrong views. Due to the fault of seeing all skillful actions as deceitful, he himself had a short life and was born as a hungry ghost, etc. Reflecting well on this, it is more important to tame oneself than to be tamed by others, so correcting one's own faults is very important. That is to say, to explain a little about those reasons: The great Brahmin Rahula or Saraha, not only had his lineage declined, but also abandoned the conduct of the abbot and associated with a bamboo-maker woman, and was punished by the king and others; Shawaripa engaged in hunting with women; Darikapa served prostitutes; Jayadalipa killed various birds; Binasapi was attached to the lute; the seductive Dorje appeared as a greedy wine seller; Lavapa showed a liking for sleeping; Indrabhuti was seen as lustful; Jalandharipa was seen as having the behavior of a child; Tilipa burned live fish and other uncertain behaviors; Tantapa acted as a weaver; Gayapati flaunted his love of singing; Ghundiri only killed sparrows and ate them, etc. Although their behavior was low, their views and meditation were very high. Considering these situations, it is very important not to judge the actions of one's own guru. Root text: If the guru appears angry, Recognizing that it is because he sees my faults and disciplines me with scolding, One should confess and vow. A wise person will not be controlled by demons. This means that if one has tried all sorts of ways to please the guru, but the guru still appears angry, it is because the guru sees the faults that one cannot see due to one's karmic obscurations, and recognizing that it is time to discipline oneself with harsh behavior, one should sincerely confess one's sins, such a wise person will not be controlled by demons. Root text: When the guru rises, one should not sit on the seat. When the guru is sitting, one should greet him and offer necessities. When the guru leaves, one should not attend to him from the front, back, left, or right.

Loss of merit results from disparaging cushions and mounts, etc. Striking doors, displaying coquetry, and frowning with displeasure. Lies, idle chatter, laughter, and irrelevant talk. Not being respectful and fearful, acting as one pleases. Abandon these and rely on the guru with the three doors pacified. This means that when the lama rises or walks, it is improper conduct to sit on one's own cushion. When the lama is seated, one should inquire about their well-being, such as, "May the Protector Rinpoche be comfortable in the mandala? Does your body have any discomfort?" etc., and offer whatever is appropriate, such as objects of the five senses. When the lama departs or returns, if one goes to serve as an attendant, one should not go from the seventh position onwards, because the first position and the right side are the head of the line. Even if one is blocked, it is not permissible to step on footprints, so one should go from the left side. Stepping on the lama's bedding or cushions, and disparaging mounts, etc., in whatever way one offends the lama, it is said to be a cause of the decline of merit. Striking the doors of the house, etc., when opening or closing them, displaying coquetry in the presence of one's own lama, and frowning with displeasure, showing an unhappy demeanor, and in response to the lama's words, etc., lying and chattering idly, saying many meaningless words, laughing, and saying all sorts of irrelevant idle talk, not being respectful and fearful, but instead acting with the opposite of these, such as contempt, etc., abandon these. With the body, respectfully prostrate and show respect; with speech, respectfully pray and take refuge; with mind, respectfully have faith and pure perception, etc. Skillfully rely on the lama with the three doors pacified. Root verse: One who curses and hates the lama, Should not be befriended; if possible, prevent them. If they speak flattering words, the control of sin, Is especially strong, causing vows to be broken. This means that if someone is an enemy of the lama, harboring a mind of cursing and hatred, one should not befriend them. If one has the ability, one should prevent them from harming the lama. Even if one cannot prevent them, if the enemy speaks flattering words in order to befriend oneself, the control of sin is even stronger, so one must be especially careful to avoid breaking one's own vows. Root verse:
