Like a rope. Root: The Lama who possesses all qualities, Is the essence of wisdom and compassion of all Buddhas. In the realm of those to be tamed, he appears in the form of a person, He is the unsurpassed root of all attainments. This is because, being rich in the noble qualities of vast learning and scripture, And skilled in liberating the minds of disciples with unsurpassed wisdom of realization, he is the Lama who possesses all qualities. Such a holy being is the essence of wisdom and compassion of all Buddhas, and therefore appears in the realm of those to be tamed in the form of a person, and his qualities are praised as the unsurpassed root of all attainments. Root: In the provisional meaning, he is in harmony with all, In the definitive meaning, his system is contrary to all. Because he has intentions, he is superior to all, Skilled in cutting doubts, he endures the weariness of false accusations. This means that, according to the provisional meaning of conventional truth, he is not incompatible with anyone, so he is only in agreement with everyone in terms of direction. In the definitive meaning, his system is contrary to all, meaning that children act for their own benefit and holy beings act for the benefit of others, which are not the same. Because he has intentions, in either of the two systems, he only acts for the benefit of others, free from the intention of acting for his own benefit, so he is superior to all. He is skilled in cutting the doubts of disciples and endures the weariness caused by the false accusations of others. Root: The great ship that liberates from the ocean of existence, The true captain who does not stray from the supreme path. He destroys the fires of karma and affliction, and rains down nectar, He dispels the darkness of ignorance, like the sun and moon. Because the vehicle is very large, it is like the earth, The source of benefit and happiness, the wish-fulfilling tree. A good vase filled with the treasure of Dharma, Superior to the wish-fulfilling jewel that produces everything. He loves all equally, like a father and mother, His great and swift compassion is like a river. His unchanging joy is like the king of mountains, His undisturbed equanimity is like rain clouds. Such a Lama is equal to all Buddhas, Even if he harms you, if it is connected to the path of happiness, Then for the person who relies on him with unfeigned faith, The qualities of higher realms and definite goodness will fall like rain. This means that the four, birth, old age, sickness, and death, are the ocean of existence, and liberation from it is like a great ship, the supreme path of liberation does not stray from the

Like a true merchant, destroying the flames of karma and afflictions, like a rain of nectar. Dispelling the darkness of ignorance, like the sun and moon, although the burden is extremely heavy, it is like the foundation of the earth. Becoming the source of benefit and happiness for sentient beings, like a wish-fulfilling tree. Possessing the treasure of all Sutra and Tantra teachings, like a virtuous vase. The arising of all needs and desires is even greater than a wish-fulfilling jewel. Therefore, if one relies on the Guru, one will attain the state of liberation and omniscience. Loving all beings equally, like parents, without discrimination between enemies and friends, vast and swift compassion is like a river. Wishing beings to have happiness and be free from suffering, unwavering joy is like the king of mountains. The equanimity that is undisturbed by any attachment or aversion, the Guru who is like a rain cloud is no different from all the Buddhas, and even if harmed, is connected to the path of happiness. For the practitioner who relies on him from the heart with sincere faith, the happiness and well-being of higher realms and the excellence of definite goodness, liberation, and omniscience will descend like rain. This is what is meant. Root text: The sick rely on the doctor, the guest relies on the escort, the fearful rely on armor, the merchant relies on the guide, the boatman relies on the helmsman, rely on the fear of birth, death, and the enemy of afflictions. That is to say, how does one rely on a noble person? Just as the sick rely on the doctor, the guest traveling in a dangerous place relies on the escort, the fear of encountering enemies relies on armor, the merchant crossing the ocean relies on the guide, and the boatman crossing the river relies on the helmsman, in order to be saved from the fear of the enemy of afflictions such as the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death, one should rely on a noble person. Root text: The one who draws near to this is the disciple, but for one who lacks the vessel, the essence is of no benefit. Merely satisfied with material things, having obtained them, he flaunts the changes of the four seasons with artificial faith. At first, he does not enter the path of Dharma, like a wild yak. In the middle, he hates listening and contemplating, and cherishes this life. In the end, he holds onto sinful friends, and his actions are reversed, like a wild man at the edge of the forest. That is to say, a bad disciple who lacks the vessel is defiled by all faults such as doubt and arrogance.
