Having transformed into a body ablaze with intensely burning iron, being entwined, the body is burned to ashes, and finally experiencing torment such as crows and vultures gouging out the eyes. Root text: Bound by the trembling rope of a blizzard, unable to move while still alive, the wind's weapon pierces the depths of the bones, the cold touch is like being squeezed between the teeth, causing suffering. This refers to beings born in the cold hells, who are involuntarily trapped on top of the great snow mountain's unbearable gorge, in a place fiercely bound by blizzards and strong winds. The so-called trembling rope means constantly trembling, the body is bound and tormented as if shackled, unable to die no matter how much suffering is endured, yet appearing as if alive. The touch, like the wind's weapon, pierces to the depths of the bones, the sensation of cold touch is like being squeezed between the teeth, causing suffering and misery. Root text: With blisters and burst blisters, with the groans of "A-chu" and the hissing sounds, teeth clenched, skin cracking like উৎপལ་ flowers into six parts, like lotuses into eight parts, and like great lotuses into sixteen countless wounds, creatures with sharp beaks pierce and devour. This refers to blisters, which are caused by extreme cold, causing blisters to burst on the body, and the blisters bursting and turning into wounds. Because of this, groans of "A-chu" and hissing sounds are emitted, teeth are clenched and no sound can be made, skin cracks like উৎপལ་ flowers into six parts, like lotuses into eight parts, and like great lotuses into even more parts, from which pus, fat, and marrow flow. Root text: Cut into wooden segments and wrapped in places without doors, doors and pillars, stoves and ropes, etc., taking on various forms transformed by karma, endlessly experiencing suffering. The ephemeral ones are those who dwell in mountains, rocks, water, trees, fire, and sky, etc., with uncertain numbers, lifespans, and sufferings. That is, in rocks, stones, and boulders, etc., freezing and stiffening in snow and ice, being heated and burned in hot springs and fire, being wrapped in the crevices of trees and leaves, and drifting in the sky, etc., suffering. Some ephemeral ones are like this: In the past, in the city of Stone Heap, the venerable Katyayana told a butcher the precept of not killing at night.

Furthermore, due to previous non-virtuous deeds, one is born in the ephemeral hells, where even though suffering during the day, the punishments at night do not diminish, as if possessing the enjoyments of the gods. And some, like the son of Maudgalyayana, reached the end of the ocean. Thereafter, one sees the beings of the ephemeral hells transformed into stakes, brooms, seedlings, doors, winnowing baskets, ropes, tripods, pillars, and so on, experiencing various sufferings. Moreover, a butcher who slaughters cattle in the capital city of the king feels the pain of crows pecking at his bones as if he himself were feeling it. Similarly, the pain of cutting down trees is felt as if he himself were feeling it. In a place called "Ear Million Marks," when lost, in a net-like house, immediately after striking the ghanta, about five hundred images of Shravakas gathered, killing each other, and then all went out and disappeared, and so on, there are many such things. In general, although the types of hells are summarized as eighteen, they are not limited to just that; the Akashagarbha Sutra and other scriptures describe even more than that. Root verse: In the realm of pretas as well, due to the lack of desire, the suffering that arises is constant and unchanging. The suffering caused by hunger, thirst, cold, heat, fatigue, and fear is extremely unbearable; one should rely on this understanding. This means that the suffering caused by hunger, thirst, and so on, where the desires of the mind are never fulfilled, is continuous, and due to this fault, one runs around searching only for food, becoming exhausted. Even if food is seen, one is frightened by seeing people guarding it with weapons, and so on. One should know that the suffering that arises is extremely unbearable. In particular, those with inner obscurations have stomachs as large as mountains, but mouths as small as the eye of a needle. Food and drink are guarded by others or disappear, or even if one finds a little bit of impurity, it cannot enter the mouth, and the stomach cannot be filled, thus causing suffering. Those with obscurations of food and drink, on top of the previous suffering, at night their stomachs burn with fire, and food and drink also turn into flames, and so on. The common obscuration is that there is no flesh, the bones are covered with skin, and one is very emaciated. Among them, those called outcasts cannot even find the worst food, and as soon as they meet each other, they fight, quarrel, beat, and strike, and so on.
