Immersed in joy, for the lives of beings, again and again in their minds, doing the hunting of killing, with a stick in hand, only thinking of pursuing tormenting others. This means, like the place where high mountain gods and immortals reside, where various herbs grow, such as flowers, etc., a delightful land of medicine, gathering many friends, beings immersed in it, their lives are killed again and again, that hunter is none other than the messenger of Yama, holding a stick in his hand, what they think in their hearts is only pursuing tormenting others. Root verse: Beings troubled by the summer heat, if they could like the cool light of the autumn moon, day and night, a hundred days would pass, and they would not feel fear because their lives are heading towards death. This means, foolish beings troubled by the summer heat, if they could think that they could rest in the cooler autumn moonlight than this, how wonderful that would be, thinking like this, day after day, year after year, their lives also pass away like ashes, and they would not feel fear because of this, this is truly too pitiful. Root verse: The arrow shot by a warrior's effort is extremely fast, but faster than this is the hungry ghost crawling on the ground, faster than this is the evil spirit flying in the sky, faster than this is the chariot of the sun and moon, faster than everything is the passing of human life. Just like the arrow shot by a strong man, faster than this is the hungry ghost crawling on the ground, faster than this are the evil spirits flying in the sky, creating various damages, faster than this is the wind chariot of the sun and moon, faster than this is the extremely fast god, faster than all of this is the passing of the lives of beings. Root verse: The flourishing time is attacked by the punishment of aging, the stable time is disturbed by disease, the perfect dependent arising is destroyed by decay, death quickly comes to take life. This means, these four things that make the world unbeautiful, cause all beings to suffer harm, just as it is said in the "Sutra of Admonishing the King": Great King, aging will destroy the flourishing time, disease will destroy the healthy, decay will destroy all perfections, death will destroy life. Just as it is said in the sutra, it should be combined with the explanation. Root verse: When defeated on the battlefield of Yama,

Vanish! The radiance of life and the senses completely disappear, and medicines and doctors also depart from it. Limbs feel tired when moving, and breath is involuntarily shaken and consumed by force. Even if surrounded by relatives and friends and weeping in sorrow, one cannot avoid being firmly grasped by the iron hook of death. The change of that breath is like the tongue of a horse's tail, severed by the sharp blade of the Lord of Death, Yama. The beauty of laughing in life disappears, and with the mouth open, the teeth are exposed, but it only makes others feel disgusted. Not only that, but according to the good and bad karma accumulated in this life, one enters the six realms of samsara, which are like a dark abyss. Therefore, what is the meaning of contemplating impermanence of death? First, it becomes the cause for entering the Dharma; second, it becomes the condition for practicing the Dharma; and finally, it becomes the aid for experiencing the clear light of death. In the past, in Rajagriha, there was a householder named Shri Jata who was a hundred years old, and he requested the Buddha to allow him to be ordained. The Buddha agreed and had Maudgalyayana ordain him. As a result, he became proficient in the Tripitaka, but because he was weary of impermanence, he jumped into the water.
