Accepting that phenomena appear as they are is considered true appearance, while considering them not to be so is false appearance. In short, the objects and subjects of dualistic appearance, the apprehended and the apprehender, are the conventional truth, and knowing them as non-dual is considered the ultimate truth. Those who accept the eight consciousnesses consider the alaya-consciousness to be the essence of consciousness that has not transformed into the five sense consciousnesses and the mind, being unobscured and indeterminate, and primarily the mind's cognitive aspect. It exists even in the continuum of an Arhat, so it is not obscured and indeterminate. It also exists in the continuum of those who have severed their roots of virtue, so it is not virtuous. It also exists in the continuum of the formless realm, so it is not non-virtuous. The afflicted mind (klesha-manas) is the alaya-consciousness from the perspective of its object, and from the perspective of its aspect, it is the obscured and indeterminate nature of one's own mind. To put it simply, Mind-Only proponents believe that the objects of the six aggregates, such as forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile sensations, are like a dream, just a single consciousness. It is not that they grasp at this and that, but that they do not exist as such externally. For example, concerning form, the eye faculty is the mind appearing as the eye consciousness, and what appears as form is also the mind appearing in that way. Therefore, form has no self-nature, and it is merely the appearance of the arising of eye consciousness on the object. The appearance of the three—faculty, consciousness, and form—as separate is an illusion, because the nature of consciousness is the same substance. Thus, when the eye consciousness sees form, it is actually consciousness seeing itself. The cause of the appearance of form is consciousness, and apart from that, there is no form existing externally as a creator. However, without investigation, people assume that the eye sees form, etc., but this is not established. They say that the consciousness appearing as form is truly established, and they consider the nature of all consciousnesses, including the consciousnesses, to be truly established. The apprehended aspect, which appears to exist externally, and the apprehender aspect, which appears to exist internally, are both illusions. Therefore, they consider the non-dual consciousness of the apprehended and the apprehender to be true. Since the apprehended and the apprehender are not established as separate, it is understood as non-dual, and the very nature of consciousness is considered to be wisdom, but the apprehended and the apprehender are not negated. This is because they merely deny that the apprehended and the apprehender are different entities, but they acknowledge that the apprehender exists in its own right. That is to say, all knowable phenomena

Among the three, the imputed, the dependent, and the thoroughly established, all conventional truths are included in the imputed and the dependent. Ultimate truth is included in the thoroughly established, so the selflessness of phenomena is that itself. The selflessness of persons is considered to be the imputed. Of the two Madhyamaka schools, Svatantrika and Prasangika, the first is: Root Verse: "All that appears is established as conventional truth, Its nature is like an illusion; Ultimate truth has no establishment, like the sky; This is the system of the Madhyamaka Svatantrika." That is, all aspects of what appears, from the perspective of conventional truth, appear like illusions. But in ultimate truth, they are not established as real, like the sky. From the perspective of the basis of designation, all phenomena are established as two truths in dependence on the mind. Even though they are not established as real in their essence, they are considered to be established as their own nature in the aspect of terminology, hence they are called Svatantrika. In this regard, it should be understood through four well-known methods: the Diamond Slivers, existence and non-existence of arising and ceasing, the four extremes of arising and ceasing, and the Great Interdependence. The first is: the subject of the dharma, even just an object, is not produced in ultimate truth from self, other, or without a cause. Therefore, it is empty of all produced objects, just as there is no object in a mere generality. The second is: the subject of the dharma, this appearance of interdependence, is also empty in ultimate truth of the three possibilities of the result existing in the cause, not existing in the cause, and arising. For example, even though there is no object, it is represented by its own nature. The third is: examining and refuting both cause and effect, for example, designating the absence of an object as space. The fourth has two aspects: non-affirming negation is examining and refuting the nature of the Great Interdependence itself; affirming negation is also freedom from one and many. That is, interdependence itself is empty of inherent existence because it is free from the eight extremes of arising, ceasing, and so on. For example, the mere interdependence that appears like a mirage has not truly ceased. If this is summarized, then form, mind, and non-dualistic formations, that is, all compounded objects, and uncompounded phenomena such as space, and all non-objects, are conventional truth. The mere absence of inherent existence of these is ultimate truth, and these two cannot be said to be either the same or different in essence, they are merely different in designation, the meaning is...
