It is not. The intention to benefit others is just like that. As it is said, just as the realm of sentient beings is immeasurable, so too, a single instance of generating the altruistic intention to benefit them is immeasurable. As it is said in the *Bhadrakalpika Sutra*: "How far does the end of space extend? Likewise, the end of all sentient beings is the same. How far do actions and afflictions extend? My aspiration extends that far." As it is said, please listen with all sentient beings in mind. Furthermore, the proper conduct for listening to the Dharma is to abandon the three faults of the vessel, the six stains, and the five non-grasps. The first is: not turning the ear, the fault of being like an overturned vessel. Not holding it in mind, the fault of being like a vessel with a hole in the bottom. Mixing with afflictions, the fault of being like a poisonous vessel. And, the six stains are: pride, lack of faith, not seeking meaning, outward distraction while gathering inward, and weariness; these are the stains of listening to the Dharma. As it is said. The five non-grasps are: grasping the words but not grasping the meaning, grasping the meaning but not grasping the words, grasping incompletely, grasping incorrectly, and grasping without understanding the meaning. So, having abandoned these faults, how should one listen? As it is said in the *Ganda Vyūha Sutra*: "Son of good family, when you listen to the Dharma, you should generate the perception of yourself as a sick person, generate the perception of the Dharma as medicine, generate the perception of diligent practice as a nurse, and generate the perception of the virtuous friend as a skilled doctor, and treat them with respect." As it is said, listen with respect. On top of that, it is also necessary to listen through the gate of the complete six perfections. That is, the essential instructions for all Dharma practices, in the *Abhisamayalankara*: "Offer flowers, cushions, etc., guard the vows of place and conduct, do not harm all living beings, supplicate the lama, listen without distraction to the advice of the deaf, ask fault-finding words to dispel doubts, Tara is endowed with six limbs." It is also necessary to listen considering the meaning of what is said. Thus, even if just a little sound of the sacred Dharma enters the ears of an animal, it has the special power to liberate from the suffering of the lower realms, as explained in the ocean of sutras and tantras. As such, Gyalwang Longchen Rabjampa also said: "Even sentient beings who hear the sound of the Dharma drum

What need is there to mention those who have already attained liberation? Therefore, your strong desire to proclaim the Dharma is also a manifestation of accumulating many misdeeds. Even so, the master Śāntarakṣita said: "This leisure and endowment is extremely difficult to find. When you have obtained the opportunity to accomplish the purpose of a human being, if you do not strive to accomplish benefit in this life, how can you ever obtain this endowment again in the future?" Therefore, now, like obtaining a wish-fulfilling jewel, you should seize this opportunity of such a precious leisure and endowment that is difficult to obtain even in hundreds of thousands of eons, and diligently pursue the means to attain liberation and the state of omniscience. How should you do that? Because it is only by relying on this body endowed with the six elements that you can do so. Master Ngawang Drakpa said: "The practice of Dharma is superior to all kings. As long as one lives in samsara, one accumulates merit and other collections, and the causes of enlightenment greatly increase. There is nothing more precious than suffering in samsara. Therefore, quickly and with many methods, constantly practice deceiving the Lord of Death." That is how it is. In general, there are many obstacles, and in particular, the causes of untimely death are the exhaustion of lifespan, the exhaustion of karma, and the exhaustion of merit, i.e., the exhaustion of one of the three, the exhaustion of two of them, and the exhaustion of all three. For the exhaustion of lifespan, there are rituals for prolonging life; for the exhaustion of karma, there are methods such as ransoming life and expelling substitutes; for the exhaustion of merit, there are methods such as increasing merit through offerings and generosity. If two of them are exhausted simultaneously, the scriptures say to remedy them with the corresponding antidotes. Among these, regarding the factors that cause the decline of the life to be remedied, the signs of decline, the teacher who remedies, and the method of remedy, there are four statements in the scriptures. First, the factors of decline are: breaking vows, mental disturbance, discouragement, panic, and strong anger, curses, subjugation, punishment, and the breaking of vows of body, speech, and mind, and falling into evil places, etc. These will lead to the decline of lifespan, disturbance of breath, and being controlled by demons. Second, the signs of decline are: being angry with attendants, uttering miserable sounds, changing facial expressions, improper behavior, the teacher and attendant being late, and food not being to one's liking, etc. These are the signs of decline. Third, the teacher is: subtle in meditative absorption
