Because I didn't understand the way of asking questions, I didn't know how to answer. They said that they could only pray to the Lama Konchok (Three Jewels). I jokingly said that even if I wasn't taught that, I would know it, and I wondered if there was anything else to learn, but there was nothing, and I felt helpless. That night I stayed there until midnight, but I didn't learn anything, and everyone seemed surprised. The next morning, two Mongols helped me. There was a monk named Cho Drak and Tro Kyap, and they said that if those two went, they wouldn't like it because they spoke the same language as the runaways, so the three of us went while learning the rules. We saw two blue tents facing each other, with the Amban (Qing Dynasty Resident Minister in Tibet) in the middle, all the Mongol officials in the back row, some Han officials in the left and right rows, and all fifty Tongs (Qing Dynasty official title) standing in front of each other. Around the tent, it was like Tibetan and Mongol officials were gathered, but there was no prohibition. The three of us went there, but I was lame in both legs and could only hobble along. They said that helping to support me and carrying my luggage were both against the Han rules. I put my hands on the ground, and they also said that I couldn't take off the golden hat I was wearing, so I accepted the instructions. After paying respects, we retreated to the back, and the three of us sat down in a posture of audience. An old Tong came over and knelt down in front of the Han officials, following the rules, explaining and listening, with a peaceful demeanor and a humble attitude. Finally, when it was my turn, he stood up and spoke with an air of authority and fear. First, he said that the runaways were from my hometown, and then he asked where I was born, which Han Chinese gate I belonged to, where I had been and lived since a few years ago. What were the titles of Khenpo (abbot) and Rabjampa (Geshe), and if not, wearing a pointed Khenpo hat would violate the emperor's laws. He said that you are not afraid of the great emperor at all, and that Xining and Sichuan are jointly suppressing the rebellion. He said that even though you have been here for several years, you have not explained the reasons to the Amban, the emperor's representative, and so on. From sunrise to noon, we took turns asking and answering questions, and finally the two Mongol helpers...

Is looked with bulging eyes and said something like "ji ji mama, niu niu" in Mongolian, and finally the two bowed and stood up. Because I was sitting, he immediately said to the two helpers, "Lift him up," and the two lifted me across the market. After resting a little, the two said, "Don't stay here, it's better to go up quickly." When Chos Grags and the other one and I returned to the camp, the officials gathered there, and everyone happily showed off, placing a warehouse called "A-mor-san" and jugs of liquor. I didn't reveal a single bit of what A-'ban asked, saying, "Now there is definitely no problem," and was very happy. The two helpers also said, "A-'ban must think the lama is real, so he needs to be served well," but the matter of interrogating Thongsi, who was sent to call the runaway, had not yet passed. We said that if it were the Tibetan custom, it would be difficult to know, but A-'ban said, "No matter what words are spoken, if there is any deception, we will definitely know, there is definitely none," just like that. The next day, as soon as the runaway Thongsi and others returned, it was said that they were being questioned, but unlike the previous day, it was heard that no one had the right to listen. The runaway Thongsi and others who greeted me said that they were very afraid when they met the army, and they had no choice but to say that they were from the lama's hometown, and they also said that the local officials and others all said that they were their own people. He also said to me, "Aren't you someone who speaks a lot of Tibetan, that's great," and then offered a khata and was very happy. At that time, A-'ban said again, "Come here," saying that a Mongolian monk who was close to him had contracted a serious illness and had been ill for several years, and asked me to help perform rituals. I gave many reasons why it was useless, but he didn't listen, saying, "I don't know if you can help, but A-'ban thinks I haven't forgotten him, so I must go anyway." Saying that, he went and performed rituals in a large tent for seven days, but it was useless. Seeing this situation, although he offered many things, he only accepted the khata. Their family was definitely going to die, and they were very distressed. What did A-'ban offer?
