In order to enter into virtue, the intention is shown in four ways, namely: the intention of equality and contradiction are also shown together. That is to say, all dharmas are empty in essence, clear in nature, and appear as samsara and nirvana, but all of these do not go beyond the equality of essence. Although they appear to be contradictory in appearance, they are shown to be of one taste in reality. The intention for other meanings is: the dharmas from form to omniscience appear to exist in the appearance of delusion, but in reality, they are shown to be unestablished upon examination. The intention for other times is: from beginningless time until now, with the meritorious roots of contaminated and uncontaminated virtues that have gone before, it is shown that one can attain enlightenment in a short time without effort. The intention for individuals is: those of the Hearer and Solitary Realizer lineages hold their own path as supreme and denigrate others. Furthermore, if one holds the path one has entered as supreme, it will become an obstacle on the path to liberation and omniscience, and it is denigrated to prevent this. The hidden intention is: for those who cannot comprehend the object to be tamed, a state of doubt arises, thereby eliminating the cause of doubt. For those who have entered the Hearer and Solitary Realizer vehicle and cling to cause and effect as real, the intention of the intermediate turning of the wheel directly points out that the dharmas from form to omniscience do not actually exist. However, in order to please those trainees of lower intelligence, names and parts are given, that is, the straightforward and definitive dharmas have characteristics. In this way, they are guided deviously onto the correct path, although the words are in accordance with the Lesser Vehicle, the meaning is not in accordance. The commentator thinks that this is shown in the manner of dreams and illusions. If divided, there are four intentions: entering into the hidden intention, and similarly, the characteristics, antidotes, and transformations. Entering into the hidden intention is: some Hearers, fearing the teaching that all dharmas are empty, abandon the Great Vehicle. For these people, it is said that the dharmas from form to omniscience exist, so that they understand them to be established or true, and then they enter, but in reality, they are understood as being like a dream. The hidden intention of characteristics is to gradually explain the non-self-nature of the completely imputed and the dependent nature in order to understand the meaning of the absence of self-nature in conventional dharmas.

There is no self-nature, and the perfectly established absence of self-nature. Among these three, the first is the absence of characteristics, the second is the absence of inherent existence of arising, and the third is the absence of ultimate self-nature. All phenomena cannot be measured in meaning with just a few words, but are taught in profound statements. The antidote, the hidden meaning, refers to reversing others' wrong conceptions, not distinguishing superiority or inferiority by the length of life, lineage, or body size. The form bodies of all Buddhas are the same as the Dharma body of the two bodies, and they are regarded as the same even for the place of accumulating merit. For example, the essence (Tibetan: ངོ་བོ༷་) is emptiness, the Dharma body; the nature (Tibetan: རང་བཞིན་) is luminosity, the Sambhogakaya; and compassion (Tibetan: ཐུགས༷་རྗེ་ཀུན༷་) is all-pervasive, the Nirmanakaya. The transformation, the hidden meaning, refers to killing parents who should not be killed, and similarly, destroying kings and those who observe pure conduct who should not be destroyed. This is said to mean that the father is existence and the mother is grasping. From these two, the wind merges with the central channel and is purified, which is called killing. The alaya consciousness is the king, and similarly, the Brahmin is the one who observes the accumulation of fears, and the Shramana is the one who observes pure conduct with vows and asceticism. The eight aggregates of consciousness, gathered by the internal sense bases of grasping and being grasped, are those who wander with their realms. Purifying these and others without abiding in one's own continuum is called destruction, which is merely a nominal term. If taken as real, it is a great mistake. In short, the difference between having a hidden meaning and being hidden is that the hidden meaning is merely keeping in mind how to liberate disciples from sin and how to engage in virtue, without relying on methods of grasping the other party, etc. The hidden meaning refers to the thought and action that depends on grasping the object of the disciple, and discrimination is like the eye that observes all the scriptures. From the perspective of what is to be measured, if all the eighty-four thousand doors of Dharma spoken by the Buddhas are summarized into one meaning, it is the two truths, conventional and ultimate. There is no third truth other than these two. Conventional truth has two ways of appearing, that is, appearing to the confused consciousness.
