Therefore, this cannot even be called a 'result' ('bras bu'). Why is it said that a 'result' ('gyu') arises from a 'cause' ('bras bu')? Because from beginningless time, people have been attached to the 'cause and effect' ('gyu 'bras') as being real 'things' ('dngos po'), and they separately cognize 'cause' ('gyu') and 'result' ('bras bu'). This inner 'nature of mind' ('sems nyid') appears like external 'causes' ('gyu') and 'conditions' ('rkyen'). In dreams, due to the power of delusion, one sees phenomena such as the arising and ceasing of forms. This is like an illusion, because the 'cause' and 'result' ('gyu dang 'bras bu') do not exist, so there is no arising from a 'cause'. If there is no arising, then there is no opposite of that, which is 'destruction' ('jig pa'). Because there is no 'birth' ('skye ba') and 'death' ('jig pa'), there is no establishment of 'self' ('bdag') and 'other' ('gzhan'). If 'self' and 'other' do not exist, then who will 'die' ('chi'), and who will 'transfer' ('pho')? Because these two do not exist, there is no 'transfer' ('pho ba'), no 'permanence' ('rtag pa') and no 'death' ('chi ba'), so there is no 'cessation' ('chad pa'). Because there are no phenomena such as 'birth', one does not 'wander' ('khrul') from one state to another, and there is no 'samsara' ('khor ba'). Therefore, there is no 'nirvana' ('mya ngan las 'das pa') that is separate from 'samsara' ('khor ba'), just as if water does not form, there will be no flood. Second, it is explained that the basis of appearance, the 'nature of mind' ('sems nyid'), is not established in ultimate truth. The 'abode' ('gnas') of 'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags'), the 'alaya' ('kun gzhi') and the 'moment' ('skad cig ma'), and the 'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags') are never separate. If one does not exist, the other must not exist. It is impossible for one of them not to exist. Therefore, these two are in a state of equality of 'existence' ('yod') and 'non-existence' ('med'). If the 'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags') do not exist, then the 'alaya' ('kun gzhi') also does not exist, like a knot without a rope. Even so, why is it said that 'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags') do not exist? Because 'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags') are produced by incorrect 'conceptualization' ('kun tu rtog pa') that does not accord with the reality of 'things' ('dngos po'), therefore 'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags') do not exist. If 'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags') do not exist, then the object of the 'alaya' ('kun gzhi') is 'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags'), therefore there is no object, and if there is no object, the 'alaya' ('kun gzhi') does not exist. If there is no object of attachment, consciousness will not arise, therefore all 'consciousness' ('rnam rig') does not exist. As mentioned above, because these 'directions' ('phyogs') do not exist, if the 'object of focus' ('dmigs pa')—'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags')—and the 'place' ('gnas') where 'habitual tendencies' ('bag chags') reside—'alaya' ('kun gzhi')—both do not exist, then how do the 'consciousness' ('rnam par shes') and 'wisdom' ('rig pa') that rely on them arise? Therefore, these 'mind' ('sems') and 'mental factors' ('sems byung') have transcended the 'extremes' ('mtha'') of 'existence' ('yod pa') and 'non-existence' ('med pa'), and are neither 'one' ('gcig') nor 'many' ('du ma'), and do not abide in any way. Second, examining the completely purified object, there are two parts: scriptural authority and reasoning. First is the scriptural authority: Because there is no 'enlightenment' ('byang chub') of the 'Sugata' ('bde gshegs'), the 'miraculous powers' ('rdzu 'phrul') of the 'Buddha' ('sangs rgyas'), although they appear, are not real, like an 'illusion' ('sgyu ma'), it is an appearance of delusion. The second part is a discussion on the non-establishment of non-conceptual wisdom. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thus it is shown, as well as the non-establishment of pure transcendental wisdom. The first of the two is: Likewise, non-discrimination is also true wisdom, the root of which is extremely pure, is the immeasurable stream, and the unerring Dharmadhatu (法界, Dharma-dhātu, dharmadhātu, the realm of Dharma), upon which those wisdoms arise. If examined, it is also not established. This is like a vajra (金刚,梵文:वज्र,罗马转写:vajra,汉语字面意思:金刚), that is, the place or cause of non-discriminating wisdom is the mind, and because it does not exist, the result, that is, wisdom, also does not exist. Therefore, the two are not established, abiding equally, completely the same as the nature of the non-establishment of the mind, that is, equal. The Yogacara (唯识宗) school believes that wisdom is momentary and truly existent, which is also not established. The wisdom that realizes the Dharmadhatu, like a vajra, becomes the pinnacle of wisdom, and those cannot be grasped in any way, therefore, wisdom is not momentary. The second is: The root of virtue of the three wheels of purity is like an image, because it is not real, so the pure worldly wisdom based on it cannot exist. Determining its meaning The sixth general meaning, separately examining and showing the meaning of determination, has three parts: equality of intention, equality of behavior, and summarizing the meaning to show the Bodhisattva. The first also divides into: the basis, the equality of the two truths, showing no acceptance or rejection; the path, the equality of truth and falsehood, showing no attachment or aversion; the existence and non-existence, being free from extremes, showing all equality. The first is: The two co-emergent ones are not established, therefore, Bodhi (菩提), that is, becoming a Buddha, and not becoming a Buddha, that is, sentient beings, are both equal without characteristics, so there is no acceptance of the Buddha and rejection of sentient beings. If even the name 'truly existent' does not exist, how can there be words showing 'suchness'? Examining in the manner described above, the categories of 'truly existent', such as no birth and death, equality, non-duality, beyond thought, emptiness, Dharmadhatu, speech, and being free from names, etc., all these displays are guiding names, but in the true determined meaning, there is neither 'truly existent' nor 'co-emergent'. If it is not just a name, but in the manner of 'truly existent', it is thought that there is such a path, then that itself is 'co-emergent', not 'truly existent'. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
