In short, there are two ways: one is to show how it appears in conventional terms, and the other is to show that in ultimate truth, self-nature is not established. The first way has three points: identifying the basis from which it appears, pointing out the error of thinking it is different from the basis, and determining its true nature as it is. The first point is: when it appears as an illusion, how do sentient beings appear due to the power of illusion? The minds of sentient beings, whose nature is universally aware, and which is not real but a universally aware that perceives in terms of grasping and being grasped, have been naturally lost and deluded without effort from beginningless time. Just as not seeing the true meaning, wisdom is reversed, controlled by the causes of ignorance, and does not have the power to see the truth. The mind, the eight aggregates of consciousness, and the fifty-one mental factors, as well as the three bodies that will be discussed below, all appear as the three: form, self, and consciousness. The various actions of good and evil karma accumulate habits, and due to the power of habit, the previous habits are strengthened and have the power to produce results. When one's own mind appears as external objects and the inner body, it is like being accustomed to ugliness and seeing all places filled with bones, one's own mind also appears in this way. With the continuum of the Alaya consciousness that has accumulated various habits, the attachment of 'I' arises, but apart from the thought of 'I', there is no 'I' that is observed like attachment, just as when a snake is mistaken for a rope, there is only the attachment of the snake, but no snake. Because the mind has the power to make coarse phenomena appear, the subtlety of the Alaya consciousness is difficult to perceive and is obscured, and because the subtlety is not seen, it is assumed that all appearances arise from the Alaya consciousness, just as mistaking a mirage for water. The second point is: why does it appear? Just as not seeing the nature of the rope and mistaking it for a snake, due to holding various habits and having the nature of continuity, the power of the Alaya consciousness mind appears in various forms, but it is not recognized, but instead it is thought that all appearances exist with their own essence, following the reversed attachment, following the wrong attachment, thereby becoming the cause of samsara, having the nature of samsara. In short, there are two aspects: first, how it appears in conventional terms; second, showing that self-nature is not established in ultimate terms. The first has three points: first, identifying the basis from which it appears; second, showing that considering it different is a mistake; third, determining its true nature as it is. First: if it appears as confusion, then how do sentient beings appear due to the power of confusion? The minds of sentient beings, whose nature is universally aware, and which is not real but a universally aware that perceives in terms of grasping and being grasped, have been naturally lost and deluded without effort from beginningless time. Thus, because the true meaning is not seen, wisdom is reversed, controlled by the causes of ignorance, and does not have the power to see the truth. The mind, the eight aggregates of consciousness, and the fifty-one mental factors, these are the three bodies mentioned below, appearing as form, self, and consciousness. The many actions of good and evil karma accumulate habits, and due to the power of habituation, the previous habits are strengthened, and when they have the power to produce results, one's own mind appears as external objects and the inner body, just as when one is accustomed to impurity, one sees all places filled with bones, one's own mind also appears in this way. Second: why does it appear? Just as not seeing the nature of the rope and mistaking it for a snake, due to holding various habits and having the nature of continuity, the power of the Alaya consciousness mind appears in various forms, but it is not realized, but instead it is thought that all appearances exist with their own essence, thus following the reversed attachment, following the wrong attachment, thereby becoming the cause of samsara, having the nature of samsara. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
