Also, not drinking alcohol. If alcohol has four characteristics: color, smell, taste, and the ability to intoxicate, it should be abandoned. If a patient cannot survive without drinking alcohol, it should be boiled to remove its taste and potency before drinking. Second, regarding the limbs of asceticism, there are four: dances, etc., garlands, etc., high and large beds, and untimely food. First, the way to abandon dances, etc. The Blessed One was staying in Rajagriha (王舍城). At that time, King Bimbisara (形色王) built a monastery for the sake of the Naga kings Nanda (难陀) and Upananda (优波难陀), and held a grand festival. Performers came from the south and imitated the behavior of the Six Groups of monks. The Six Groups of monks were angry and, in order to hinder the performers who were holding festivals in other places, the Six Groups of monks also danced. The people did not watch the performers, but only watched the Six Groups of monks, which led to the performers not receiving compensation and their livelihood being cut off, so the Buddha established the precepts. Therefore, for the singing of changing voices, and the dancing of hands and feet, and the swaying of the body, and similarly, the playing, beating, and blowing of cymbals and other musical instruments, those who abide by the vows should not do so at inappropriate times. Second, regarding the three of garlands, etc. The Blessed One was staying in the Kalanda Bamboo Grove (迦兰陀竹园) in Rajagriha (王舍城). At that time, when the monastery was holding a festival, the Six Groups of monks decorated themselves with colors and garlands, so the Buddha established the precepts. That is to say, in order to make the body fragrant and beautiful, one should not apply incense such as agarwood. One should not apply fragrance such as sandalwood to the body. One should not apply beautiful colors such as turmeric, saffron, and cinnabar to the body, nor should one draw patterns on the forehead. One should not wear garlands of various flowers on the head, nor should one wear garlands around the neck; ascetics should not wear and hang them. One should not decorate one's neck, hands, feet, etc. with famous precious ornaments such as gold, silver, pearls, gems, and lapis lazuli. One should not apply eye medicine made of cinnabar, saffron, camphor, and frankincense to the eyes, even if the eyes are not sick. In order to make the color of the body beautiful and generate desire, one should not look in mirrors and glass, etc., nor should one add spices to bathwater, etc. Third, regarding high and large beds, it is divided into two parts: abandoning high and large beds and mentioning the necessity of abandoning dances, garlands, beds, etc. First, wooden beds, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a large bed is made of ivory, horns, bones, etc., or decorated with them, even if it is a low bed, it is not allowed to lie down or sit on it. When teaching the sacred Dharma, it is permissible to sit on a jeweled throne. When sitting on it, one should sit with a non-attached mind, with the thought of impermanence. The materials for cushions and bedding, leather goods, should be given to remote areas or places where they are particularly needed. Secondly, for needs such as song, dance, music, bedding, garlands, etc., and for things that are relied upon, if pride or conceit arises, one should abandon the source or object of pride and not rely on them. If one does not rely on them, then one is abiding in the asceticism of abandonment, which is called being disciplined. Regarding what is done after noon, there are three aspects: the explanation of eating at the wrong time, the explanation of eating at the right time, and the explanation of whether it constitutes a transgression. First, from after noon of the sun on the earth itself, until dawn has not appeared, dawn refers to the time when there is no yellow dawn among the three dawns of blue, yellow, and red. Therefore, the Buddha taught that before this, monks should not eat food. Therefore, those who hold vows should not eat food at the wrong time. Secondly, from after the wrong time, until dawn appears, and until the sun on the earth itself has not passed noon, eating food during this time is for one's own benefit and knowing that one can protect the vows, this is eating food at the right time. Thirdly, if one regards the non-time as the time to eat food, then one should not eat food at any time. If a doctor tells a patient that if they do not eat, they will not be able to survive or will feel pain, and advises them to eat, then even if the patient eats, it will not constitute a transgression. In addition, if one is walking on the road for about one yojana, or in a famine, one can eat whenever one gets food. Regarding accepting and abandoning gold and silver, there are three types: the actual object, the way of allowing, and the actual allowed object. First, Sālabrahma (萨勒钵喇摩,सालभ्रम,sālabhrama,娑罗钵喇摩) if it is smelted, it is pure gold. Silver is called silver itself. The word 'itself' is to exclude similar things. If donors give these, ascetics should not accept them, should not accept them. If one touches lead or tin, etc., it constitutes a transgression. Secondly, if there is a lack of clothing or other poor things --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
