Thus it is. If the all-seed, fully ripened consciousness is the cause of all afflictions, then how is its antidote, the seed of the supramundane mind, possible? The supramundane mind is unfamiliar, therefore its habit is nonexistent. If that habit does not exist, then it must be explained from where that seed arises. Answer: It arises from the seed of the habit of hearing, which is the homogeneous cause of the utterly pure realm of dharma. Then, what is the habit of hearing? Is it the very nature of the alaya-consciousness, or not? If it is the very nature of the alaya-consciousness, then how can it be the seed of its antidote? If it is not its very nature, then it should be observed, what is the place of that seed produced by the habit of hearing? Answer: That which, relying on the enlightenment of the Buddhas, becomes the habit of hearing, the place where it enters, enters into the fully ripened consciousness in a manner of being together, like milk and water. It is not the alaya-consciousness, because it is the very seed of its antidote. Therefore, relying on a small habit, it transforms into a medium habit. Relying on a medium habit, it transforms into a large habit, because it possesses repeated hearing, thinking, and meditating. Therefore, the small, medium, and large habits of hearing are also regarded as the seeds of the Dharmakaya, because it is the antidote to the alaya-consciousness, so it is not included in the nature of the alaya-consciousness. Although it is mundane, because it is the homogeneous cause of the utterly pure supramundane realm of dharma, it transforms into the seed of the supramundane mind. Even if the supramundane mind has not yet arisen, it is the antidote to the pervasive entanglement of afflictions, the antidote to the path of the lower realms, and the antidote to clearing away all misdeeds. It is the conforming cause for encountering Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. For the first Bodhisattvas, although it is mundane, it is also regarded as included in the Dharmakaya, and it is also regarded as included in the liberation body of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas.

The e is not the ālaya-vijñāna, but is summarized into the dharma-kāya and the body of liberation. Just as small, medium, and large gradually increase, so too, the vipāka-vijñāna also decreases and the place also changes. The vipāka-vijñāna that has become all places, all seeds also become seedless, and is also completely abandoned. Furthermore, how is it that the ālaya-vijñāna and the non-ālaya-vijñāna, like water and milk, exist together, how do they completely diminish? Like a swan drinking water and eating milk, and when one is separated from worldly desire, the habits of the non-samāhita ground diminish, and the habits of the samāhita ground increase, like the transformation of the place. Thus it is said. The homogeneous cause of the extremely pure dharmadhātu, and relying on the bodhi of the Buddhas, etc., the difference between the dharma-kāya and the body of liberation, and what are the two metaphors spoken of for the transformation of the place? The first is, in the commentary, it says: The dharmadhātu of the Buddhas is extremely pure, free from sudden obscurations, and its homogeneous cause is the teaching, because it is similar if it arises from the cause. Listening to it is hearing. What is its habit? It is the seed of the supramundane uncontaminated mind, because the ālaya-vijñāna is dissimilar. Thus it is said. The second is, in the same treatise, it says: Relying on the bodhi of the Buddhas means the undefiled and unobstructed wisdom, the teachings of the sutra section, etc., are the place of the habits of hearing, but the ālaya-vijñāna is not the place, because it enters together with it. Thus it is said. That is also the place of increase, like hearing the teaching, and the place of reliance is the ālaya. The third is, in the same treatise, it says: Regarding this, the difference between the dharma-kāya and the body of liberation is this: liberation is only liberation from the bonds of afflictions. For example, a villager is bound by chains, etc., and only liberated from the bonds, the disappearance of suffering is only the result, and there is no freedom beyond it.
