Pa'o. Etc., which prevents the conceptual thought based on the existence of a person as a substance. Similarly, nothing will abide in this suchness, because no one can abide in it and manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed complete enlightenment, let alone abide in it and teach the Dharma, because it is without abiding. This is said by negating all noble beings, and it is in the manner of an antidote. The second part has three points: debate, answer, and refutation of debate in the answer. The first part has two points: The debate on the place where the substance-thought exists is: Don't ordinary beings also understand such a Dharma as "all dharmas are without self"? Therefore, it will not pervade the first way of establishing the conceptual thought of grasping. That's what it says. The debate on the place where the imputed-thought exists is: Noble ones also have this, such as: "Monks, after the night has passed, at dawn I heard the sound of a jackal making a sound," and "Similarly, at that time I became the king of beasts, a lion with limbs not mutilated." Isn't that what was said? Therefore, it will not pervade the second way of establishing the conceptual thought of grasping. That's what it says. The meaning of these two is that the substance-thought does not pervade the grasping of ordinary beings, because they also understand that all dharmas are without self, and they also understand that there is no substance of sentient beings. And the imputed-thought does not pervade the grasping of noble ones, because they also say "I," so there is self-grasping. The second point is: Those are faith-mindedness, and here it is intended to speak of suchness-mindedness, so it is meaningless. And, those words are conventional truths, not ultimate truths, so they are meaningless. The meaning of these two is, in order, that ordinary beings knowing that all dharmas are without self is faith-mindedness, and it is only understood that the self is imputed. And the imputed grasping is explained to noble ones as wanting to say suchness-mindedness, only thinking that the self is imputed, so that debate is meaningless. The words of the noble ones, "I at that time," etc., are conventional truths shown as a means for others to understand, not the nature of self-grasping.

Therefore, the argument is meaningless. These debates about the Sunlight Treatise also appear in the Ornament Treatise. So, the noble ones in the continuum of practitioners on the path of application have the conceptualization of imputation regarding persons, and here it is also said that the path of seeing has conceptualization, which is unreasonable, and it would become not admitting that the path of cultivation has the conceptualization of substance-grasping. Because the first grasping conceptualization only exists in ordinary beings, and the second only exists in noble ones. To this, some answer that saying it that way is in terms of substance-grasping and imputation-grasping, but the two conceptualizations are conceptualizations that take those two graspings as objects, so it is not about them. This is very unreasonable. In the debate, it is argued that the distinction between the first and second conceptualizations is not pervasive, and in the root verses it is also shown that the two conceptualizations explicitly exist in ordinary beings and noble ones, so this debate arose, and if it is not about conceptualizations, then it will not fit the occasion. Furthermore, the noble ones did not say that the path of cultivation has substance-grasping. Therefore, the statement that imputation-grasping is divided into two through the two ways of attention, namely ordinary beings, and that the path of seeing has the latter conceptualization, is made according to the power of aspiration attention. The intention of the root verses spoken to the noble ones refers to suchness attention. For the path of cultivation, the term substance-grasping is not used. Shantipa said that the place where these two conceptualizations exist is definite. As it is said: 'The conceptualization of grasping, relying on sentient beings as substances, is that of ordinary beings, because they have not abandoned it; while it is not that of noble ones, because they have abandoned it, and it is the occasion for what is to be abandoned by seeing.' And: 'The second conceptualization of grasping, relying on sentient beings as imputations, is that of noble ones, namely shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, because they have not abandoned it; while ordinary beings have the first from the beginning.' Therefore, it is also necessary to abandon the statement that the path of application and the path of cultivation have the latter conceptualization, because they believe that the second conceptualization only exists in shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, and the first only exists in ordinary beings. Third, if the grasping conceptualization spoken of here as conceptualizing sentient beings is the person spoken of in the division of person and dharma? Or
