Just as a Vipassanā practitioner holding the view of freedom from elaboration, although due to the power of habituation, attachment arises to various phenomena such as form, they do not acknowledge it as attachment. Furthermore, here it is said that first, having abandoned the afflictive obscurations, and attachment to the apprehended, etc., is abandoning the earlier obscurations, and then abandoning the later obscurations, but this is not necessarily so. However, this is in terms of the rough order, to represent the way obscurations arise. Otherwise, it would be too much if those of the Madhyamaka lineage did not determine from the beginning that self-awareness is unreal. In short, these treatises explain the way the Madhyamaka school abandons the two obscurations, and if one does not like this way, then one cannot abandon the obscuration of knowledge, because it is not like that, etc. Without understanding the key point being shown, it is extremely ridiculous to associate the first ground with the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and the second and third grounds with the Mind-Only school, and the fourth ground with the Madhyamaka school. The four things shown here, there are two explanations that both consider them to be the stages of meditation in Madhyamaka. As the Clear Words says, "Therefore, with 'because birth and destruction are empty,' etc., this practice of keeping in mind the stages of meditating on the essential meaning is clear in the Madhyamaka treatises, so I will not think about it here." And, on other occasions, these treatises are also cited for how Bodhisattvas meditate on the essential meaning. And, in the Difficult to Understand, when explaining that the means to enlightenment of the internal heretics are not means, it is explained that the selflessness that goes everywhere is to briefly explain what enlightenment is with the pith instructions of the lama, and to show what is not said in the Compendium of Trainings by way of implication. Therefore, it is said, "That birth," etc. The second is the second explanation of the reason for contradicting the promise, which is the explanation of the meaning of the words. This section is extensive, and first, with the Madhyamaka view, one can completely abandon obscurations, which is determined through the four grounds of yogis. The second has two parts: that the Madhyamaka view can completely abandon obscurations, and that it is shown that the view of the Realists cannot completely abandon obscurations. The first is: showing that with the view of reality, it is not appropriate to attain enlightenment having abandoned all obscurations, because that meaning exists in that way, so there are two ways to abandon obscurations in one's own system.

The way to eliminate the obscuration of self and the obscuration of knowledge. First, there are three parts: determining that all dharmas are without self; the way to meditate on that; and the way to eliminate self-view after meditating. First: Whatever is empty of arising and ceasing even in the conventional, is not a permanent thing or a real self, like a rabbit's horn. You have also promised that the self of consciousness and matter and the Ishvara, etc., which are established by the external and internal heretics, are also empty of arising and ceasing in the conventional. Based on this reason, it is determined that there is no permanent self in the aggregates, etc. Among them, the external heretics who accept the self, such as the Samkhyas, say that the permanent self is the nature of consciousness, while the Vaisheshikas, etc., think that the permanent self is the nature of matter, but the permanent self is also devoid of all the ability to function, so it is empty of arising and ceasing. The internal heretics who accept the self, such as the Vatsiputriyas, etc., think that it cannot be said to be permanent or impermanent, so arising and ceasing are not allowed for them either. Second, after determining in this way, the object of focus is the aggregates, etc., which are devoid of that self, and the realms and sources included in the aggregates, etc., the twelve branches from ignorance to old age and death, because they arise from causes, are interdependent arising, and in the conventional are the nature of arising and ceasing, focusing on the object of focus of the co-emergent self-view, in terms of eliminating, thinking of it as no-self, and in terms of cutting off, thinking of it as just dharma. Third, after meditating in this way, one can completely abandon the appearance of clinging to self, that is, one can turn away, because both the self-view and the object of focus focus on the aggregates, and by the path of the way of grasping that is actually contradictory, one enters into the reality of the aggregates. The word 'te' is a word that guides the meditation of the lower yoga ground. The meaning of 'te' and 'ne' in the lower two should also be viewed in this way. Here, establishing focusing on no-self is called the yoga ground. Second, there are three parts: the object of grasping, the grasper, and the way to eliminate the obscuration of knowledge of not clinging to the two. First, there are three parts: determining that the object of grasping is unreal; how to practice it; and the way to eliminate the object of grasping after practicing. First, whatever is focused on simultaneously, it is determined to be pervasive that it is not a different substance, like pleasure and the consciousness that experiences it. The appearance of blue and the mind that grasps it are also focused on simultaneously.
