So, what is the thought behind considering "exhausted and unborn"? It is the thought that the power of the path destroys or cuts off the previously existing defilements, thinking in this way, that the previously existing is exhausted by the power of the path; and that the power of the path prevents the defilements that are about to arise from arising, that is, with the thought of cutting off the momentum of arising, the power of the path that is about to arise prevents it from arising. So, why can't the two kinds of wisdom that they consider become great Bodhi? Only because the defilements that have already arisen and are about to arise are exhausted and do not arise by the power of the path, only because the exhaustion of non-arising does not exist. What is the reason for that? Because it is established by scriptural and logical proofs that the defilements have no exhaustion and arising in the ultimate sense, precisely because it is so. Some people who are not familiar with the meaning of the great treatises say that the wisdom of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas Arhats is the view previously stated, which is very unreasonable. These are merely the Mind-Only School and the Vaibhashika and Sautrantika schools establishing by sectarianism that the great Bodhi is like this. If this established view is taken as the most important, then the Bodhi of the three vehicles is; if the meaning is taken as the most important, then just as this view is not suitable for the Bodhi of the Mahayana, it is also not suitable for the Bodhi of the Hinayana. Because this view is merely an establishment like the self and Ishvara, it is fundamentally impossible to establish. Moreover, there are Hinayana Bhikshu Arhats, and no one can slander them. These are also because they do not distinguish the difference between what is in meaning and what is established by view, and are confused by the distinctions of the Vaibhashika and Sautrantika schools, thinking that the Hinayana saints must be established. What these consider is what is said in the Clear Words Treatise: "What is meant by 'who' refers to the noble Hearer assembly and the proponents of Mind-Only, because they have not realized the self-nature of the Dharmadhatu, they will necessarily generate the wisdom that exhaustion is exhaustion, etc. The Yogachara people say: 'The water element, gold, and space, etc., are considered pure as purity.' Because they acknowledge that the basis of purity is the completely established ultimate thing." It is said in this way that 'noble Hearer' refers to the Vaibhashika and Sautrantika schools. The second is, with the power of the antidote path of seeing

As desired by the Realists, what kind of afflictions, such as the conceptual thoughts to be abandoned by the path of seeing, have been exhausted from what previously existed, and what form of non-arising has been attained by making what will arise not arise? It follows that such exhaustion and attainment are non-existent, because the defilements of what has already arisen and what will arise are without truth and are the nature of freedom from elaboration without obstruction. Here, as the path of seeing is specifically grasped and arises, as shown above, the path of seeing abandons the conceptual thoughts to be abandoned by the path of seeing, and when identifying the Great Vehicle, it is shown that defilements are exhausted and do not arise. If one thinks that these two are contradictory and considers that the exhaustion of defilements is the nature of non-arising, then according to this view, the path of seeing has not caused the four conceptual thoughts to be exhausted and not arise. Even if the argument is thrown to the Madhyamikas in this way, it seems relevant, and those who do not rely on individuals need to investigate. Thirdly, if one wants to attain the enlightenment of knowing the exhaustion and non-arising, then we Madhyamikas' doctrine, which teaches that all phenomena are without inherent existence, should only be acknowledged or relied upon, this is what the venerable one thought. The reason is that, for things that are without inherent existence, falsely clinging to them as having inherent existence, the defilements established by you Realists, the way of exhaustion and non-arising does not exist at all, and that is why. The reason is established, as you have established, by the power of the antidote, the path of seeing, what has been exhausted from the nature of the afflictions to be abandoned, the obscurations of knowledge and so on, the truly existing things that have already arisen? And what has arisen or been attained from the truly existing defilements that have not yet arisen but will arise, and later become the nature of non-arising? Exhaustion and attainment, or exhaustion and non-arising, both are not attained, because the defilements of what has already arisen are separated from the cessation of the characteristic of exhaustion, and the defilements of what has not arisen but will arise are separated from the cessation of the characteristic of hindering arising, in the ultimate sense, it is the nature of suchness, the nature of reality free from elaboration. Some explain that the hindrance of what has already arisen is the imputed cessation, and the hindrance of what will arise is the non-imputed cessation, but the imputed cessation can also be obtained in the future, so it is unreasonable. Some think that this explanation is for the path of seeing in the Mind-Only school.
