It is necessary to take the three realms of existence, and in order to lead to such a birth, the cause is determined to be six. Also in the result, when consciousness connects the continuum, name and form are established, and the six sense bases arise, when the nature and distinctions of the sentient being who enjoys, and contact and feeling are established, the enjoyment of both the object and the ripening is complete, and it is determined to be four or five. Thus, the sutra says that the twelve links, the former giving rise to the latter, is when one enters samsara in general, from the ignorance of the past, karma is accumulated, and thus the body of name and form etc. is established, and from this, karma and afflictions such as craving arise, and thus it is transformed into birth etc. It is not considered the way a single sentient being takes birth from ignorance to old age and death. When the teacher Asanga shows the way a particular sentient being takes birth, he puts craving etc. before name and form, and thus understands the intention of the sutra, what is contradictory? Not understanding the key point that the teacher understands the intention of the sutra in this way, the particularists and the Tibetans interpret it literally, and were unable to clarify the sutra and its intention as explained by the teacher. Secondly, in the Essence of Dependent Origination of the Middle Way, it says: "The first, eighth, and ninth are afflictions, the second and tenth are karma, the remaining seven are suffering." Thus, three are afflictions, two are karma, and seven are the accompanying afflictions of birth. In the Compendium, it is said that consciousness is the accompanying affliction of karma, which refers only to the consciousness at the time of cause holding the karmic imprints. Thirdly, in the Compendium, it is said that the previous links each become the four conditions for the later links, which is also in terms of consciousness acting on consciousness, but it is not definite. If it produces form, then it is only the dominant condition, and form for consciousness is both that and the object condition, and for form it is both the causal condition and the dominant condition. In the first case, taking the way ignorance acts as a condition for action (volition) and thought as an example, action arises from the imprints of ignorance, and its propelling force causes it to continue, and in ignorance, one focuses on what is not supreme, and by its power it is with

Because of the reversed attachment to equivalent things, therefore, from cause to dominant condition, it functions sequentially, and the same applies to other things. It is not contradictory to what is said in the *Compendium on the Great Vehicle* that only the dominant condition functions, because that refers to the definite situation, while the *Compendium of Topics* refers to the existence. It is also not contradictory to what is said in the *Treatise on the Grounds* that it performs three functions other than the causal condition, because that refers to the ultimate causal condition, the basis of all, while the *Compendium of Topics* refers to the conventional causal condition. Fourth, there are two functions: similar and dissimilar. The first is: the former produces the latter. The second is: In the *Middle Beyond Extremes*, it says, "For the sake of obscuration and planting, for the sake of guiding and universally holding, for the sake of completion and cutting off three, for the sake of closely enjoying and gathering, for the sake of combining and manifesting, because of suffering, it becomes affliction." Therefore, for the sake of that and that, causing beings to wander becomes affliction, which is universally applicable, and the last two are summarized as the cause of weariness, and the others are applied one by one. Fifth, in general, among the four modes of birth, the spontaneously born are: when the faculties and limbs, etc., are produced, they are also accomplished simultaneously, and when dying, the faculties, etc., also cease simultaneously. The other three are both gradual. Therefore, the gradually accomplished name and form, etc., should be excluded from the spontaneously born. In the desire realm and the form realm, the twelve branches are complete, because in the form realm there is aging of decaying and maturing actions, and there are other reasons as well. In the formless realm, half of the four branches and the five sense bases of the fifth branch do not exist, but others may exist. Among them, if it is fast, the twelve branches can be completed in two lifetimes. For example, a person in the desire realm is born according to desire, and due to the power of ignorance, accumulates karma on consciousness, and until the time of death, nourishes it with craving and grasping, thereby empowering existence, then that lifetime accomplishes six branches, and the next lifetime accomplishes the consciousness of the time of fruition and seven branches. The life of the intermediate state is not counted separately. If it is slow, it is impossible to exceed three lifetimes, because the three propelling branches are in one lifetime, and the three accomplishing branches are also completed in one lifetime, and this and the two of birth and aging will not be interrupted, and between the propelling branch and the accomplishing branch, many lifetimes pass.
