Just as the arising of inappropriate attention, even without actual contact, is considered non-virtuous, similarly, even if there is no actual action, it is considered so due to attachment to the continuum. The first of "etc." refers to the thought of careless inappropriate attention, and the second refers to considering it virtuous, which is to explain that because there is killing to be abandoned, the path of virtuous action of abandoning killing is accomplished. Some people think that in order to prevent the continuation of the desire to kill, an antidote is established, and in order to prevent the continuation of miserliness, the antidote of not taking what is not given is established, but this is not contradictory to the intention. The second is: In the view of the proponents of reality, although there is no path of virtuous or non-virtuous action in the ultimate sense, they accept these two in the conventional sense. Similarly, in the view of Madhyamaka, although the phenomena of samsara and nirvana are without inherent existence in the ultimate sense, like dreams, the objects to be killed, etc., which are in accordance with emptiness of inherent existence, like dreams, refer to the objects of the environment, and the appearance of objects of generosity, etc., indicated by "etc." Due to the power of attachment to what appears, faith in the meaning of the absence of self of phenomena is weak, so for those individuals who have not completely eliminated the reversed bondage of attachment to the appearance of objects, virtuous and non-virtuous actions of killing and generosity, etc., are established in their presence. This answer, and the answers to the remaining three objections indicated by "etc.," are spoken from the Sutra Mother of Madhyamaka, which is different from the proponents of reality, and this should be understood. Some explain that the assertion in the ultimate sense and the pervasiveness in the conventional sense are not established, and some explain that it is the answer to the establishment of virtue and non-virtue. Another aspect of this is stated in the Clear Words: Although it is a general explanation of the Madhyamaka treatises, it is mainly directed towards the Mother Sutra, just as it has been said. The explanation of the answer is also quoted by the great commentaries from the Mother herself. Thus, as long as there is manifest attachment, the results of actions are true as they are said, so one should not say that one should abandon non-virtue and practice virtue, and that since all phenomena are empty of inherent existence, where is the acceptance or rejection of virtue and non-virtue? As it is said in the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning: Those who do not understand the meaning of emptiness, but only enter into hearing, those inferior beings who do not make merit are destroyed. Like this. Second, in the answer to the unreasonable meaning:

Furthermore, there are also two cases where the example is not established. The example is shown to be not established by explaining the meaning of other scriptures and this very sutra. The first case is: In the example of dreams, it is not the case that there is no virtuous or non-virtuous karma, because the twentieth chapter says: 'The mind of a dream is weakened and corrupted by the delusive cause of sleep, so it arises unclearly and confusedly. When awake, it is the opposite of that, so the results of karma in dreams and waking are not the same in size.' This scripture shows that the power of karma is small. Here, quoting the scripture of the Mind-Only school to the object of refutation, the proponent of meaning, does not become a harm, because they have not accepted it as valid. Some say this is faultless. If it is said that karma is accumulated in dreams, then there will be no difference between day and night, so the twentieth chapter explains the difference as described above, and by showing that there is such a difference, the accumulation of small karma is stated as a reason, not just as it is explained in that scripture. Alternatively, when it is said that things have no inherent existence, the Mind-Only school cannot tolerate it, so that is also an object of debate. Even so, while illustrating that the example is not established, it should also be realized that its doctrine is unreasonable in meaning. The second case is: In the example of dreams, it is not the case that there is no karma, but the example is shown to be not established according to the Mind-Only school, or just as there is karma when awake. Moreover, in dreams, if one dreams of doing good or bad, then when awake, one is surprised and says to oneself, 'Alas, I did that karma, I did it well! What I did was very good!' and one rejoices afterwards. If one does so, the karma of the dream is completely nourished by the nourishment of manifest attachment, that is, it will increase, because of that reason. How is it nourished? It is nourished by the mind of rejoicing in the state of waking after sleep. Furthermore, it can also be said that the example is not established by this reasoning. The appearance of doing good or bad in a dream leaves a weak imprint, but the subsequent thought makes it powerful, so it will not lead to the future becoming the cause of the past. In the 'Ornament of Clear Realization', if the view of the proponent of meaning and this last view are arranged as the meaning, then after explaining that the example is not established in the doctrine of the proponent of meaning, the way in which the Middle Way school establishes virtuous and non-virtuous karma, which was previously explained as the meaning, will be explained. Through 'the mind of a dream' etc., although it is believed that there are karmic results in dreams, waking
