I possess, that is, for the sake of not focusing on the basis of form, etc. Thus it is said. In the root, it says "without basis," where "that" from pure possession refers to the Dharma being taught, that Dharma is without basis, without going, and without birth, and the Dharma being explained is spoken of in relation to form, etc. Realizing that there is no going or coming by virtue of being suchness itself is no going. Just as the suchness of the Tathagata has not come to the future and has not passed away, so too the suchness of the venerable Subhuti has not come to the future and has not passed away. Thus it is said. Since form and so on are emptiness without inherent existence, realizing that there is no birth is no birth. The venerable Subhuti is not born following form, nor is he born following the suchness of form. He is not born following anything other than the suchness of form. Thus it is said. When fame becomes a Dharma teacher, there is no abiding, no going, and no birth, that is, there is no form, etc. in this place, which is the nature of no abiding. Here, saying "no going" is the nature of no going. Saying "no birth here" is the nature of no birth. Thus, saying "no here, no going here, no birth from here," these three are explained as the meaning of no basis, etc. By means of things and non-things, etc., realizing that the nature of the three aggregates of both and neither does not focus on suchness is not focusing on suchness. Among them, not focusing on form and the suchness of form, when form itself is not focused on, how can one see focusing on the suchness of form at that time? Thus it is up to all-knowing wisdom. Thus it is said, such things are all the former ones, and at the end of the latter ones, such as "inherent existence." These sixteen are only said to be the nature of application, so it is unreasonable to think that this is the place of enlightenment. The third is that the forty-eight characteristics of knowledge, the sixteen distinctions, the eleven functions, and the sixteen inherent existences are explained in this way, and so on. The fourth is the four preliminary Dharma of application, that is, the section on relying on the continuum and explaining the parts conforming to liberation is expanded, and first, the parts conforming to liberation are generally explained without combining them with the text. The fourth has two parts: connection and explanation of meaning. The first is the characteristic.

Below, it explains that which is in accordance with the aspects of liberation, possessing the virtue of being in accordance with the aspects of liberation, that is, only when it arises in the continuum, can one understand the practices as described from the perspective of characteristics. The connection to the Sutra is: When explaining the chapter on Suchness, regarding the rationality of the statement that the sixty qualities that Bodhisattvas lose become Arhats, it is because they served five hundred Buddhas and practiced generosity, etc., but were not grasped by Prajna and skillful means, which is derived from this. The second part has two points: the general meaning and the meaning of the branches. The first part has three points: the basis of where it arises, the nature of the path that relies on it, and the signs and meanings of the words. The first part has two points, the first point is the physical basis: In the commentary on the Treasury of Knowledge, it says: 'Only among humans, drawn from the three continents, not from other places, because they have wisdom and no aversion as appropriate.' It is said that the evil realms have no wisdom and unpleasant sounds, and the heavens have no aversion, so they will not be born in these places, which is the view of the Vaibhashikas. The Mahayana says: 'At that time, hundreds of thousands of gods and humans generated the mind of Bodhi.' And twenty-one thousand Nagas generated the Mahayana mind. It is also said that the sons of the gods of the form realm were also illuminated by the light of the Tathagata, becoming vessels with the wisdom of the path, so it is not necessarily the desire realm and humans alone. The second point is the basis of the mind: As explained in the Compendium of Topics, there are those who arise from meditation nature here, so it also relies on the mind of meditation. As stated in the Treasury of Knowledge, it does not, so it only relies on the desire realm. Although it is like this in the Abhidharma, like the Great Accumulation Path in the Mahayana, it mostly relies on the actual basis of the fourth dhyana, these have already been said in the pith instructions. The second is stated in the Treasury of Knowledge: 'Three actions arise from hearing and thinking.' It is said to be the actions of the three doors of body, speech, and mind, and hearing and thinking themselves. In the Compendium of Topics, it says: What is the path of accumulation? It is the discipline of ordinary beings, guarding the doors of the senses, knowing the measure of food, not sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night, diligently practicing yoga, and delighting in abiding in mindfulness. And any other virtue that becomes a cause, and the wisdom arising from hearing, thinking, and meditating is also acceptable, becoming familiar with this.
