Explanation of the nine forms of the path beyond the world. Fourth, there are nine paths beyond the world. What are they? They are the absorptions from the four dhyanas to the cessation attainment, and there are nine of them. These are also forms that rely on the knowledge of the path, so they should be understood as those in the continuum of Bodhisattvas. In this regard, the "Nyi Nang" (Sunlight Commentary) says, "Cessation attainment is obtained through the path beyond the world." Having said that, it does not explain the reason why the others are considered to be beyond the world. Some explain that some of the eight are the essence of the path beyond, and some are the basis for it, so it is said that way. The "Sherdrön" (Prajna Lamp) says that the four dhyanas are both the path of seeing and the path of cultivation, the four formless realms are the basis of the path of cultivation, and cessation is entered into and arisen from by the mind of transcendence itself, and it also manifests it, so explaining it as the path of transcendence is the explanation of masters like Bodhiye. "Tokkar" (White Realization) says, "The path beyond the world is the nine methods." That's what it says. Although it is explained in this way, the intention is that although those who manifest believe that there is no uncontaminated at the peak of existence, this teacher believes in uncontaminated, so the uncontaminated part of those eight is the essence of the path beyond, so it is established there, and cessation must be obtained through the path beyond, so that is the intention. Here, the discussion starts from whether the ninth path beyond the world, cessation attainment, is the path itself, and ultimately defines the scope of cessation attainment. Here, there are seven points to define the scope of cessation attainment: by whom it is attained, relying on what mind, by what attention, what object to be abandoned is eliminated, the essence, the time, and in which realm it is entered into. The first point is: according to the Hinayana view, the "Compendium of Topics" says, "For this, the trainee non-returner realizes it with the body, and the liberated ones of both the non-trainee also enter into absorption." It is like this, while the Mahayana can enter into absorption from the path of seeing. Ordinary beings and those liberated by faith cannot enter into absorption, because entering into this requires abandoning afflictive emotions and obtaining the mind of the peak of existence, but the former does not have the former, and the latter does not have the latter. Then, in the "Ten Bhumi Sutra" it says, "O sons of the Victorious One, Bodhisattvas from the sixth bhumi onwards can enter into the cessation of Bodhisattvas."

So, if it is said that a Bodhisattva abiding in the seventh ground enters into and arises from cessation in every moment of mind, thereby directly realizing cessation, this should not be said, and this contradicts the above, then is there any fault? There is no fault. Because, that is considered to be cessation in the realm of reality that is free from all elaborations, so the name is the same but the meaning is different. Second, the mind of the peak of existence is very subtle, and if one abides in it, it is easy to prevent the continuum of mind and mental factors, so the manifestors think that one should rely on it. The Treasury says: "The end of the subtle and subtle." However, the Mother Sutra says to rely on the mind of the ninth ground, so the former must be considered to be the time of the initial practice. Third, because seeing that the coarse continuum of feeling, thought, etc. is not peaceful, it is because of the mental activity that has previously sent the notion of abiding in peace. Bodhisattvas are for the sake of practicing the power of samadhi for the benefit of others. Fourth, the six aggregates and the afflicted mind, that is, the seven and their retinues, are prevented, and if the afflicted mind is not prevented here, then there is no difference between the non-conceptual attainment and these two in terms of peace and non-peace. That is also in the desire realm, but in the upper two realms, there is no nose-tongue consciousness and five consciousnesses respectively, so the five and two are prevented. It is unreasonable to say that the Hearers do not prevent the six aggregates, because the Compendium says: "The basis of the enterer is explained as before, and the afflicted mind is prevented." Therefore, the two Hearer schools do not accept the six aggregates, so they think that only these are prevented, but it is not the case that the Hearer saints do not prevent the afflicted mind when entering this. This is also not distinguishing the difference between the reality of things and the establishment according to desire. That state also has the Alaya consciousness, so it is conscious, because the Compendium says: "Only the consciousness of entering into cessation is slightly pacified, but the Alaya consciousness is not slightly pacified." Fifth, divided into two: establishing the view, and refuting the dispute. First, both the Meaningful and the Mahayanists consider it to be a non-associated formation. However, the Vaibhashikas consider it to be substantially existent, while the Sutra masters and above, as the Compendium says: "That is also an imputed existence, but not a substantial existence, it should be known." This is how they think.
