The desire for manifestation precedes effort, therefore it is the basis of effort, and for that reason, effort is reliance. The cause of reliance and desire is faith. If there is faith that trusts in cause and effect, then one desires the activity of abiding. The result of reliance and effort is pliancy, because by initiating diligence, pliancy of body and mind arises. What are these cultivated for the sake of abandoning? There are five to be abandoned, as it says in the Madhyāntavibhāga: "Laziness and instructions, forgetfulness, sinking and excitement, not doing and doing, these are considered five faults." Thus, sinking and excitement are combined into one, making five. Among them, the first is at the time of application, the second is at the time of applying, the third is at the time of abiding, the fourth is at the time of arising of sinking and excitement, and the fifth is a fault at the time of pacifying sinking and excitement. In order, it is not applying, the mind does not enter into abiding, the mind does not become capable, one does not apply the antidote to sinking and excitement when needed, and one applies it when not needed. The way to abandon them is that the first four are the antidote to laziness, which is diligence, but this is in terms of including cause and effect. The latter four are as it says in the Madhyāntavibhāga: "Not forgetting the object, understanding sinking and excitement, abandoning them and being diligent, abiding in reality when peaceful." Thus, the latter four to be abandoned are abandoned. The third has two aspects. The general nature is, as it says in the Abhidharmasamuccaya: "What is the nature? It is samādhi." In the Abhidharmakośa it says: "Those mentioned as primary are also the qualities of application, arising." Thus, the first three groups are wisdom, diligence, and samādhi, which is said to be primary. The individual nature is respectful application with a strong desire for virtue, constant application of continuous diligence, the growth of the seed of the mind that previously cultivated samādhi, and samādhi in which the mind abides in one-pointedness based on examining others' instructions. The fourth is that whatever one desires to manifest, such as miracles, one relies on it, and thus it manifests. These four.

Why is it called the miraculous foot? The Kosha commentary says: Why is samadhi called the miraculous foot? Because it is the basis for the attainment of all qualities. It is also said that because the supernatural power is the transcendental Dharma that overcomes great harm, and it is its basis and place, it is called the foot. The fourth is the fourth of the separate explanations, which is to explain the characteristics of the five roots. The fourth is that after the path of cultivating samadhi, the path of application for direct perception is explained, and the mind is completely subdued by the eight dharmas such as desire, so that the application of warmth and the peak position that can directly perceive the truth arises. Therefore, this path has the characteristics of the five roots. What are the objects, how to practice, the nature, and the fruits of these? The first is the object, which is the Four Noble Truths. Because these are held by the application of the Noble Path, they have the characteristics of the truth. The second is how to practice, that is, relying on the former as the cause, the latter can arise. The third is the nature, that is, from the root of faith to the root of wisdom, in order to generate present faith in the Four Noble Truths, to generate joy in realizing it, not to forget the objects and appearances controlled by it, to have one-pointedness of mind to its meaning, and to skillfully distinguish each of them. Which stage of the path are these in? It is the nature of warmth and the peak position,

From the power of faith to the power of wisdom, the stage of the path is the nature of forbearance and the supreme, which exist from these two. The difference between the faculties and these two is stated in the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha: 'Why are the faculties alone also said to be powers? Because of the difference between small and great, because of guarding and not guarding,' and so on. The Great Commentary states: 'What is the difference between the five faculties and the five powers? The arising of faith and so on, mixed with the unfavorable side of non-belief and so on, is called a faculty. The arising of only the favorable side, without mixing with the unfavorable side, is called a power.' According to that. That reason also appears in the Explanation Collection. The result is the achievement of the latter two and the path of seeing. These two paths, earlier and later, are said to be connected and related to direct realization, although both are both. However, it is considered that the true direct realization is distantly connected and closely related to the path of seeing. In the Ornament Manifestation, it is established as two paths because both of these five aggregates are connected to two joining paths, which is the reason. The sixth is the sixth explained separately, that is, explaining the aspects of the seven branches of enlightenment. The sixth is that the path of direct realization is explained under the path related to direct realization, that is, realizing the nature of the path related to and combined with direct realization, such as the four heats, because the path of newly seeing the truth that has become the nature of the path of direct realization arises. Thus, that path is the seven branches of enlightenment. What are the object of this, the way of meditation, the nature, the way of becoming a limb, and the result? First, it is the suchness of the four truths. Second, with the branch of mindfulness enlightenment, focusing on suffering, seeking and abiding in solitude from it. Focusing on the origin, seeking and abiding in detachment from it. Focusing on cessation, seeking and abiding in manifesting it. Through the means of accomplishing the path to cessation, focusing on becoming abandoning suffering, seeking its practice, The remaining six are the same. That is also what the sutra says: Abiding in solitude, abiding in detachment, cessation.
