Because it is said in the final explanation. Therefore, the intention of the noble ones must also be this view of the scholar. Otherwise, the Hearers and Solitary Realizers would directly realize the truth of the path of the Vehicle. Since the Noble Ones have spoken of the path of seeing and meditation, how can it be related to the Buddhas? Since the supports of the three knowledges are determined separately, it is not appropriate for Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to have the aspects of the base consciousness. The second (part) is divided into three (parts): four, five, and six. First, regarding the existence of three paths, namely: Among them, the first path, showing the aspect of being in the uncontaminated, is the characteristic or self-nature. Where is it? From the "aspect of no agent" mentioned in the Sutra to the "aspect of no taming," there are four in total. Through what? Through the path and so on, the determined arising (manner). If asked, how do the four, such as the path, show through the four, such as no agent? The four, such as the path, sequentially, by realizing the absence of a person as an agent, thereby acting as an antidote to clinging to it; realizing the absence of a knower, thereby acting as an antidote to clinging to it; in conventional terms, abandoning the inferior ground, from the perspective of taking the superior state, although there is transformation, it is not limited to just that transformation; in conventional terms, having tamed the afflictions and going to Nirvana, but not just that taming, therefore, they show it as such. Second, showing the aspect of the second path, existing in the contaminated, is being the antidote. Through what? Through the conceptual thoughts that grasp the obscuration of knowledge. Where is it? The characteristics or self-nature of external objects, such as emptiness, etc., represented by the terms of five aspects, are the five realizations of the meditation path's subsequent attainment. What are the five? From the aspect of grasping like a dream to the aspect of grasping like an illusion. How are they represented? The five, such as dreams, represent the emptiness of grasping, etc., and also in the manner of increasing the realization of their respective objects. Thus, external grasping is like a dream, although it appears as an object, it has no true self-nature; like an echo, it is not produced from a true cause; like an eye disease, like an image or a double moon, only the aspect has not ceased; like mirage water, from the beginning, elaboration is nearly pacified; like illusory horses and cattle, naturally sorrowful.

Because it transcends actions, it is completely pure. The method of applying antidotes is: In general, even merely meditating on understanding apprehended objects as dreamlike, etc., can abandon all clinging to them as real. Third, the aspects present on the third path, the uncontaminated path, are those that have become antidotes. Where are the six aspects of the uncontaminated path of seeing? What are the six? The external apprehended object is to be abandoned, without any substance of pervasive afflictions; that is to be taken, without any substance of complete purification; its nature is unblemished, luminous; it is without the elaboration of distinctions such as form and sound; it is realized as emptiness by its own nature, without arrogance in realization, i.e., there is nothing to be arrogant about; and that emptiness of its own nature is unwavering, i.e., the aspect of realizing that it exists as long as samsara exists. Of what? Of the six conceptual obscurations of knowledge. What are the six? The obscuration of knowledge that considers the external apprehended object as a pervasive affliction to be abandoned; similarly, combining that, it is completely pure and to be taken; for its nature, it is stained with the impurities of afflicted habitual patterns; for it, there is elaboration of distinctions such as form and so on up to tangible objects, i.e., it possesses distinctions; for it, in one's own realization of realizing that its essence is empty, it is considered that the apprehended object is real, that it existed before and disappeared later; and for it, in the nature of its essence being empty, it is temporarily empty, but later it changes and is not considered empty, therefore, the conceptualization of complete degeneration. The way those six antidotes abandon the apprehended and apprehending in general is: each is definite, i.e., each is a distinct antidote, because the aspects of the object are distinguished. Specifically, the way to abandon the latter six is: according to the numerical order of what is to be abandoned and the antidote. The third is: Thus, and so on. The fourth is: In general, and so on. The second is the second of explaining the meaning, i.e., the section on the aspects of the path of knowledge is expanded, and first is the section on connection and brief indication. The second has four parts, of which the connection is: after the aspects of the basis of knowledge, the aspects of the path of knowledge are explained. The indication is: What are the aspects to be realized by the path of knowledge? From the aspect of being free from desire onwards, up to the aspect of the emptiness of the nature of non-existence, thirty-six are proclaimed in the sutra.
