Thus it arises, from the first three phrases of the four sets to the last three, the minds' activities from expansion to contraction are extensively explained by the wise. The four, such as having or not having an end, are discussed in relation to the cycle of existence having or not having an end. Because it is greatly harmful, the four minds are combined with permanence, etc. As such, in commentaries other than the "Sunlight," it is not apparent where the two views of body and life, these four minds, are categorized. Thirdly, the Samkhyas believe that upon death, one exists in an invisible manner, so the discriminations are those of the "arising after death" expansion. The Lokayatas, etc., believe that upon death, the self does not follow at all and is destroyed, so the discriminations are those of the "not arising after death" contraction. The Jainas believe in having temporary states and different temporary states, so the discriminations are those of both the "arising and not arising after death" expansion and contraction. The Personalists believe that the self is inexpressible as either the same as or different from the aggregates, so the discriminations are those of the "neither arising nor not arising after death" denial of both expansion and contraction. This is the view of the teacher; in the "Moonlight" commentary, the method of combination and the reasons for the person are written in the same way. Thus, according to the teacher's view, the two separate expansion and contraction, the discrimination of establishing both, and the discrimination of negating both are combined as four. In the "Eight Thousand Verse," the first two are taught, so the latter two are understood implicitly, and the method of entry is included in the two of negation and establishment. The teacher has already combined with the previous four, and similarly, it should be understood that the four modes of discrimination and their combination with the four types of persons are also taught in the lower two sets of four. Regarding this meaning, some say, "Although having an end is mentioned earlier in the sutra, it would be correct to reverse it for the Samkhyas and Lokayatas." This seems reasonable like wrinkles on the face, but it has no essence. If it is said that the first and second are views of movement and aggregation, having the nature of merely establishing and negating, then how can it be reasonable to reverse the understanding of negating having an end and establishing not having an end? It is not appropriate to combine establishment with negation and negation with establishment.

is permissible. Therefore, if one considers "I and the world have an end" to mean that after death there is annihilation and no further arising, that is also possible, but the meaning of "end" is manifold. In the Commentary on Reasoning, it says: "End is exhaustion and the point of entry, nearness and direction, and inferiority." Just like that, one can understand "end" as a part of the aggregates of the future life, explaining it as the part where the consciousness of this life enters the future life, and it is very appropriate to contrast it with not having an end. Some people think that "impermanence" and "having an end" refer to annihilationism, and they think that by observing previous lives through clairvoyance, they see that there was nothing before, so they think of impermanence; observing future lives, they see that there is no arising, so they think of having an end. This is complete nonsense from someone unfamiliar with the Abhidharma. For an annihilationist with wrong views, in whose continuum the roots of virtue are severed, for clairvoyance and meditative absorption to be manifest is a laughing matter. Therefore, it is possible that someone who was not initially an annihilationist later developed those views based on clairvoyance and thus became an annihilationist. Annihilationists do not acknowledge even a single previous or future life, so when it is said that on the ground, relying on meditation, when remembering the eons of destruction and formation, the idea of having or not having an end arises, that is also applied to having an end, etc., among those two wrong views, and not to this. Therefore, the four kinds of having an end, etc., here, for annihilationists, are based on bad conceptualization, not on meditation. For the last two, although it is not clear which person it is, Blo brtan said that it can be considered that the Vaisheshika school believes in a self with form and the Samkhya school believes in a knower, so they can be applied to those two. The fourth question is: Why are these fourteen questions not answered? It is not because one cannot answer about good and non-good, but because when someone asked the Tathagata these questions, all the questions were asked starting from "I," and the Tathagata thought that without a basis, detailed analysis was not possible, so he did not answer, therefore they are unanswered. Then, why doesn't he say "no-self"? Because they were not vessels capable of accepting "no-self," so he did not say that either. As the young monk Lena said: "Because there is not, the Blessed One did not speak of life, nor did he speak of it elsewhere." And the word "life."
