For that (dharma), there is no duality, nor can it be made into two. Thus it is said. Secondly, because those such as form do not appear as their own nature, it is said that they do not generally abide in those (dharmas), and are considered to be the pinnacle. Kausika, for this, a great bodhisattva should not abide in form in the manner of focusing. He should not abide in feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. Thus it is said. Thirdly, the patience spoken of by preventing abiding in those such as form in the manner of permanence and impermanence, that is, by showing non-abiding, is: one should not abide in calling form permanent in the manner of focusing. Thus it is said. Similarly, impermanence, as well as suffering and happiness, self and no-self, peace and non-peace, solitude and non-solitude, emptiness and non-emptiness, sign and no-sign, aspiration and no-aspiration, Thus it is said that one should not abide. Fourthly, starting from the ten bhumis such as Joyful, that is, starting from that, the supreme of dharma spoken of by extensively showing the manner of non-abiding is: Kausika, furthermore, a great bodhisattva should not abide in the first bhumi in the manner of focusing. Thus it is said. Why should one not abide in those dharmas? Because they are Buddhas, etc. Why is that? Thus, after the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, has manifestly and completely awakened to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, it is because all dharmas do not appear. Applying these four as reasons is the intention of Nisnanga. Among them, the second line shows the non-focusing on the object, and the last two lines show the proof of the non-focusing on the subject. It would be good if both were applied to everything. Shanti finally says that this is the noble path of the Hearers. The reason why those sutras show the four paths of joining is that those sutras show the path of knowing those four, just as there are four stages of difference in those four objects. In those four sutra sections, also in order, merely showing the object as emptiness, as well as the general manifest clinging to the object, as well as the individual manifest clinging, and the four stages of the part of clinging that has more categories than that, are similar to this Is it the reason? I think so. The third is, it is said to be arising. Where is it? The four certainties of the Hearers and the path of knowing that (four certainties), knowing both.

It is so. To whom? To the Shravakas and Bodhisattvas. In what place and by what means does the path of application arise through focusing? It is based on focusing on the four truths in sixteen ways, such as impermanence. What is the focus for the arising of the knowledge of the path? It is the Shravaka's path of application together with its object. What is its manner? The objects to be realized, such as form, and the emptiness of the Bodhisattva who realizes them, are not different from each other, as stated in the sutras. It is known that heat arises by focusing in this way. What is stated in the sutras also applies to the rest. What is the reason for the absence of difference? Because the aggregates such as form and the Bodhisattvas are empty of their own nature. Just as the former, such as form, is shown as heat, since one does not focus on their own nature, it is known that the peak arises by focusing in a way that prevents them from remaining in a general way, which is called prevention. Just as it is shown that the peak is empty of its own nature and does not remain, similarly, for form and so on, focusing on the qualities of permanence and impermanence, etc., in a way that prevents them from remaining, it is known that patience arises. What kind of attachment to special qualities is prevented? By focusing on form and so on, one should not remain in permanence, one should not remain in impermanence, in the way that it is said. Here, the negative word "not" appears for both permanence and impermanence, which is inconsistent with the sutras, the root, and the Ornament of Realization, so this translation is not correct. Some people leave this commentary as it is and explain this treatise as being attached to special qualities. This is not carefully examined, because the prevention of the extremes of permanence and impermanence is applied to attachment to those two extremes. It is known that the supreme dharma arises by focusing on the realms such as the Joyful Land, etc., without dwelling on them, that is, not being suitable for dwelling, as explained in detail in the sutras, in the manner of showing it as it is. Why is there no place to dwell in attachment to them? Because the Tathagata, having attained complete enlightenment in unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, did not see even a particle of truth in all phenomena. It is universally present, called or like that, which is justified by the reason that it was not focused on by a person who has become a measure for all knowable things.
