Pages 701 to 800 Pages 701 to 800 The cause of birth, and it is extremely contradictory to think that the afflictions mentioned here are not unified and that afflictions are not nominally established. Secondly, what is the meaning of the fact that the Noble Ones and the Teachers say that Bodhisattvas and Hearers-Solitary Realizers do not abandon afflictions and abandon afflictions? What are those afflictions? The meaning of that is, in general, afflictions and, in particular, the cause of taking birth, afflictions are not abandoned, it is not said that taking birth requires afflictions as a cause and therefore they are not abandoned, if those are not to be abandoned, it is contradictory to be afflictions. Even if they are, they are not abandoned by the wisdom of the path, and because there is no other antidote other than that, they would also exist in the Buddha-land, and if the cause of birth here needs the nature of afflictions, it would contradict the two sutras. So what is it? Because they are afraid of the result of afflictions, samsara, and abandon it, unlike the Hearers, but for the sake of others, they take rebirth in samsara, considering the pursuit of this purpose, it is said that they do not abandon afflictions, in short, it is only nominally established that they do not abandon it for not abandoning samsara which is similar to its result. If it is not like that, if the latent tendencies of ignorance are not completely abandoned, it would contradict the fact that the latent tendencies of desire and attachment are not abandoned, because if the cause disappears, the result also disappears. From the Sunlight Sutra, it is also said that one should know that with the wisdom and compassion of complete grasping, Bodhisattvas are neither bound nor liberated, therefore this is said to be the state of abiding, the compassion of Bodhisattvas, makes them rejoice in existence, as it is said that compassion makes Bodhisattvas not liberated from existence, therefore compassion itself is the cause of being born in existence, as it is said in the Ratnavali: However, by that compassion, until enlightenment, again and again take birth in existence. Like that. Furthermore, Bodhisattvas subdue afflictions with skillful means and wisdom, they do not create faults, and they also become companions in accomplishing the path, therefore, unlike the Hearers, they are held to be completely contradictory and not abandoned, this is also the meaning of not abandoning afflictions. Thus, then, explaining the cause of taking birth of those who have attained the ground, this is with the sutras, the Noble Nagarjuna, the Noble Asanga, the Noble Vimuktisena, the Teachers'

It is the intent of the sutra commentary that encompasses all intents, which is the ultimate key point of a Bodhisattva's compassion not abiding in peace. The third is that the function of the path-knowing, which has the nature of not abandoning rebirth in samsara for the sake of others, is to completely gather beings who have not yet been gathered into the circle, and so on, to ripen and liberate them, which is its function. The reason is that one does not manifest the ultimate truth for one's own benefit, and one possesses great compassion with wisdom that realizes selflessness and skillful means. The phrase "after that" indicates the order of explanation, so it should also be applied to the previous three. The second has three: the path of the Hearers, the Solitary Realizers, and the Bodhisattvas. The first has two: the nature of the path and its cause—the concordant part of ascertainment. The first has three, of which the first is: as mentioned above, after explaining from the basis of path-knowing and so on up to the function, the path of the Hearers is taught. If someone asks: Is it inappropriate to teach the path of the Hearers in the context of path-knowing? There is no fault, because in the context of path-knowing, a Bodhisattva must fully generate all of his own paths and must fully know all other paths. The so-called context of path-knowing should be combined with the context and understood as both the context of meditation and explanation. The sutra commentary is: the answer given by Indra to Subhuti when asked, "What is the mother?" The second has two: connecting the actual meaning with the sutra, and the way the path is taught from the sutras and treatises. The first is: one should know. Where should one know? In the context of cultivating the path-knowing itself. Where should one know? In the path of the Hearers, one realizes this path in the sixteen aspects such as impermanence. From which gate should one know? When realizing the sixteen characteristic features of the four noble truths, one knows from the gate of realizing without focusing on anything. Realizing without focusing on anything is an example, that is, from the generation of the mind of enlightenment at the time of application and the dedication at the end, as stated in the sutra. Here, among the four truths, focusing on the aspects of the two truths of suffering and origin is: the great Bodhisattva, with the mind of enlightenment endowed with omniscience, visualizes form as impermanent in a way that does not focus on anything. It is the nature of suffering, the nature of selflessness, the nature of peace, and the nature of disease.
