The mind of dedication is not accompanied by the mind of enlightenment. How is it that the mind of enlightenment is not accompanied by the mind of complete dedication? How is it that the mind of complete dedication does not exist in and does not observe the mind of enlightenment? How is it that the mind of enlightenment does not exist in and does not observe the mind of complete dedication? In answer to the question, it is shown that since they are not minds, one cannot dedicate to the other. This shows going to liberation without attachment, thus showing definite emergence. This way of combining the sutras is the view of the commentaries on the Eight Thousand Verses of the Sun's Light. When Shantipa showed the cessation of the twelve links of dependent origination, he divided it into what ceases and by what it ceases, and applied seven and seven to both paths of cessation, thus explaining twenty-nine aspects. In Moonlight, too, the seven to be attained by cessation are explained as the object, and the seven of the path are explained as the agent. The second has three parts: how the sutra's wording shows it, how the meaning is summarized by the root, and how the commentators combine the two. The first is: it is said that one should contemplate the forms of impermanence, etc., on phenomena such as form, and that the one who contemplates is the Bodhisattva, the motivation is the desire for the lesser vehicle, the non-mixed omniscient attention, and the way of contemplating is to contemplate in a non-objective manner. In the sutra of the path of truth, the ultimate dedication is also explained, so since it was taken up earlier, dedication is also mentioned at the end. Therefore, the literal meaning of this does not include the path of the Hearers, for if it did, it would be necessary to desire to contemplate impermanence, etc. Then, as before, the basis, motivation, attention, and the way of dedicating at the end are all said to be related only to the Bodhisattva. Therefore, the direct teaching of the sutra is the knowledge of the path itself, which has an object. Some say that this is not reasonable, because the object of the knowledge of the path must be the path of the Hearers, and here only the aspects of the four truths are explained. This refutation seems to be superficial, because in knowing that path, one also knows that "one focuses on this object in this way," and if one is separated from the wisdom of the object, one cannot cut off the object and form of that isolated wisdom, and without cutting off the object and form, one cannot understand the distinctions of knowledge. The second is: the basis for the Lord to contemplate impermanence, etc.

Those are the Four Noble Truths, and what is to be kept in mind as their essence are the sixteen aspects of the Four Noble Truths. When keeping them in mind, it is the stage of the wisdom of the path, and what is to be understood is summarized as the path of the Hearers. Although the one who understands is a Bodhisattva, it was not summarized because it is easy to understand. Thus, the meaning of the Sutra is explained here: keeping in mind the sixteen aspects such as impermanence is the path of the Hearers, which is to be understood. Not keeping in mind the aspects of the Four Noble Truths is the door or method by which the wisdom of the path understands that path. The root text also states regarding the manner of the wisdom of the path itself: 'The four noble truths of the noble ones, from the door of non-apprehension of aspects, should be known as the path of the Hearers.' By combining in this way, since the object and the text are established separately, the subject will be shown. The words of the Sutra include combining the aspects as what is to be known and non-apprehension as the way of understanding. However, in the treatises, the path of the Hearers is made as what is to be understood, and non-apprehension of aspects is made as the way of understanding. Although this arises, do not think that it is inconsistent, because the meaning of realization is hidden in the Sutra, so when explaining it, the Venerable One himself is the authority. Thirdly, from the 'Sunlight Commentary': 'The establishment of the sixteen aspects that focus on the four truths of the path of the Hearers has been explained.' Thus, merely keeping in mind the Four Truths as impermanence etc. is the path of the Hearers, and keeping in mind the aspects of the Truths in a non-apprehending manner is the desire of the Lesser Vehicle, and it is said to be related to the non-mingling omniscient mindfulness. This is also the case in the 'Commentary on the Ornament'. From the 'Ornament of Realization Commentary' it is also said: 'Thus, through this sequence, in the Great Vehicle, some aspects are shown through names, and some are shown through their own essence, so it will not become a fault of not being the path of the Hearers.' Thus, in the Hearer Vehicle, sixteen aspects are spoken of, and in the Great Vehicle, thirty-three aspects are spoken of. Because the two numbers are inconsistent, in order to dispel the doubt of whether it is the path spoken of here, and from the 'Complete Chapter' it is also said: 'Here, twenty-nine aspects are the path of the Hearers, because they cause the attainment of that Bodhi. That is because those non-apprehensions enter into the wisdom of the path itself, because previously they had also aspired to great Bodhi, and later they were also summarized into the omniscient wisdom.'
