How does it not contradict what is said in many places? Because, apart from that, according to the teachings of "the second moment," etc., it is thought that the last fifteen are spoken of on the path of cultivation, so those are imputed. If the path of seeing is not imputed, then it is not real either, so it contradicts what is said to be the sixteen aspects of the path of seeing. This statement does not seem to exist in the root and commentary of the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning, which one has made the standard, and in the view of this scholar. The latter has already been stated, and the former will be explained. Third, divided into two, what is said from the Madhyamaka is in the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning: At the end of the knowledge of Dharma, if there is a difference in this, even the most subtle thing, by what is it imputed to arise? The unskilled one does not see the meaning arising from conditions. In the commentary it says: Thus, the knowledge of Dharma that focuses on dependent arising, which is without arising and ceasing, because the three truths are dependent arising, and their own nature is unborn. Nirvana is also its own nature, seeing this, realization is only one. If so, how is the path of seeing established as fifteen moments? Some schools do not accept the path of seeing as fifteen moments, but believe that realization is only one. Their view and this statement are not contradictory. Those who believe in fifteen moments also do so in order to benefit those who are to be tamed by teaching them in this way, dividing the nature of one wisdom and separately establishing it as fifteen parts. The meaning of this is: By knowing that dependent arising is without arising and ceasing, one also knows that the nature of suffering, origin, and path are also without arising and ceasing. That nature is also the nature of cessation, so one knows the nature of the four truths simultaneously. At the end of the knowledge of Dharma, it is not realized sequentially in the way of how it is realized. Therefore, realization is only one. However, establishing it as fifteen or sixteen moments is established in order to benefit those who like elaboration. Because one is not afraid of the nature of the four truths, one knows the Dharma-acceptance in the way of proper attention, so it is Dharma-knowledge. At the time of subsequent knowledge, one is also not afraid, and has the ability to recognize, so it is subsequent acceptance and subsequent knowledge.

That is how it is considered. In the Compendium of Topics, it is said as follows: As it is said, "The establishment of the teaching remaining and flourishing is with elaboration and detailed explanation; the establishment of the ultimate truth is self-awareness of each individual, without elaboration." Among these, considering the first establishment, the four minds that are in accordance with the aspect of the knowledge of Dharma, and the four minds that are in accordance with the aspect of subsequent knowledge, for as long as those eight minds arise, immediately following them, one mind that is solely focused on the fully cultivated calm abiding will also arise. If these are combined, they will become nine minds, and through these, the path of seeing will be completely perfected. That is to say, the four Dharma-endurances that are in accordance with the aspect of the knowledge of Dharma and the four subsequent endurances that are in accordance with subsequent knowledge, totaling eight, plus one mind of calm abiding, totaling nine. Although it is said to be nine in the sutra, because there is wisdom, it is the establishment of sixteen. Furthermore, in the same text, it is said: "Considering the second establishment, only one that is in accordance with the knowledge of suchness, starting from the nature of the mind, will completely perfect the path of seeing." That is to say, it is said in the sutra that one mind with suchness as its object will perfect it. Among these, the first is the explanation with elaboration, spoken for the sake of the teaching remaining, for the sake of those to be tamed; the second is the establishment of the definitive meaning without elaboration, arising in the continuum of yogis. In the commentary on the Compendium of Topics, the sixteen that are mentioned are also only considered as an establishment. In this way, if the latter view is unified with the view of the teacher mentioned earlier and acknowledged, then it will be easy to practice for a while. The second (path of seeing) has three parts: briefly explaining the nature of the path of seeing, elaborately explaining the manner of cultivation, and refuting the view that does not acknowledge the manner of explanation. The first (part) has two parts, the first is the explanation. Where is it explained? Right here, this path of seeing with external benefits. Through what means? Through the moments of forbearance and knowledge for the four truths, the two truths with defilements and the two truths without defilements, in a manner of four each. Where is it? In the knowledge of the path itself, that is, at this time. The second is saying that the benefits of the path of seeing are very great. Where is it to be cultivated? Right here. This (path of seeing) has four aspects, through which one? Through the bodhisattva who has attained the path of seeing. Where is it? In the knowledge of the path.
