More profound is the wisdom of the Hearers, because they realize the sixteen aspects of the four truths from the sound of others. Even more profound than that is the wisdom of the Solitary Realizers, which is distinguished by just this cause of their own realization. Subtle is the knowledge of the Hearers, because it is the very fruit of abandoning only the afflictive obscurations. Even more subtle than that is the wisdom of the Solitary Realizers, which is superior because it abandons the cognitive obscurations and the grasping of subject and object. In the Eight Thousand Stanza Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it also says that even longer than long is very long, where long refers to the fact that it is not the domain of the tirthikas, and is the knowledge of the Hearers. Very long refers to the fact that it is not the domain of the Hearers, and is the wisdom of the Solitary Realizers. In both the Twenty Thousand Stanza and Eighteen Thousand Stanza Perfection of Wisdom Sutras, there is no need to indicate, and by combining the two Sutras on Profound Wisdom, according to that, the last two lines are about profound wisdom, and the first two lines are explained as having the meaning of not needing to be indicated. In particular, from the Twenty Thousand Stanza Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, before the Sutra on Profound Wisdom, verses such as "whatever, whatever" are taken and explained. According to this explanation, the first two lines are about not needing to be indicated by others, and the last two lines are about teaching oneself without relying on sound. Some say that profoundness itself is also connected to the previous line, but if we follow the Ornament of Clear Realization, it is more appropriate to connect it to the latter line. In the Lamp for the Perfection of Wisdom, it says that the root word "also" casts aside the latter distinction and explains it as being related to both profoundnesses. The third has two, which are the differences between traversing the path and teaching the Dharma. The first is that the Solitary Realizers are superior to the Hearers, and the only one is the first point. Where is it? Those Solitary Realizers at the limit of existence, who manifest enlightenment, do not need to rely on the teachings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and Hearers, that is what it means. The reason is that the Solitary Buddhas, at the time of the limit of existence, do not rely on the teachings of other teachers, but directly realize the enlightenment that they themselves are to attain, and therefore. The reason for that transformation is the power of having manifestly accumulated and increased the roots of virtue, such as listening with the Hearer's canon as the object for eighty great kalpas in the past, and thinking, aspiration, and so on. How is it accomplished that manifesting enlightenment does not require relying on the teachings of a teacher, and is superior to the Hearers? The Sutra says that even at the time of the limit of existence, the Hearers are by others.

Because it is said in the scriptures that one realizes one's own Bodhi by relying on the indication of sound. From which scripture? In the Bodhisattva Pitaka, it says: The Shravakas go after sound for liberation. Like this, therefore they are also called disciples, because a teacher is definitely needed. Here, "others, etc." are the basis for teaching the Dharma, so it will be related below, and in the Ornament of Clear Realization, these two are also separated and explained in an order of above and below. Here, they are spoken of together with the intention of reducing the collection of words. The second is that the Pratyekabuddha is superior to the Shravaka, and this is the second point. What is the reason? The wisdom of the Pratyekabuddhas is not understood by other disciples through sound, but is the profundity of understanding through silence. The reason is that by teaching the Dharma without expressing it in sound, other disciples are made to enter the path of the ten virtues of higher realms, etc., and to enter the path of realizing selflessness of definite goodness, therefore it is so. What is the cause of that? The Pratyekabuddhas, because they have abandoned the grasping and the grasped of their own wisdom, have realized the ungraspable, etc., which is due to the power of accumulating merit and making aspirations. How can one's own disciples understand the meaning of what is being taught without relying on sound, and thus be superior to the Shravakas? The Shravakas are taught by the speaker through the Dharma expressed in sound, and the listeners can understand the speaker's knowledge.
