Attaining enlightenment merely through this, it is said in 'Thub dgongs': "These two also need to fully realize and become enlightened Buddhas only after four countless eons." Also, Gewai Lha said, "This power of the mind of enlightenment is even faster than the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas by forty countless eons." According to the former, it is one countless, and according to the latter, it is forty countless, slower than Bodhisattvas. Thirdly, in 'Gyan Snang', some say, "This Buddha's lineage is without beginning, or when each Buddha appears, countless beings are completely liberated from suffering, but even so, samsara will not be exhausted, because it is infinite, like space. Even though there are many obscurations such as mountains, space is never completely exhausted." This is the view of infinity. Others say, "When encountering the antidote dharma, what appears as a diminishing dharma, when the antidote side greatly increases, the diminishing also becomes very possible, like the impurities of gold, etc. Samsara also, when the antidote side of characteristics such as selflessness manifests, is a diminishing dharma, and through the power of the reasoning of self-nature, samsara will be cut off." This is the view of having an end. In both the large and small commentaries, it also says all beings, so this teacher seems to agree with the latter view. Abhayakara also quoted the latter statement, and quoted the scriptures saying, "These beings will all become Buddhas." Both scripture and reason prove that there is an end. Which view should be accepted here? Later great scholars said that both having an end and not having an end to samsara were spoken by the Blessed One. Relying on it, those who hold tenets have explained both having an end and not having an end in treatises. Both views have arguments, but if asked whether samsara has an end or not, the sutras say not to answer. And it is said that the emptiness of emptiness, which is without beginning or end, is the nature of samsara. Therefore, just as the general characteristic is easier to understand for the tenet of infinity,

Answer: However, just as no answer is given to questions about what has an end, similarly no answer is given to questions about what is endless, so this is not a strong proof. The reasoning presented by those who believe in a finite samsara is found in the Pramāṇavārttika: "Because all that is diminished and excellent depends on things, and because it possesses contradictory qualities, through habituation to that, one's nature changes, and in some, the defilements are exhausted." This seems to argue that in some streams of consciousness, it is possible for faults such as attachment to be eliminated. However, for those who believe in a finite samsara, it must be proven that each and every sentient being will definitely attain buddhahood. The mere possibility of this happening does not guarantee that it will actually happen, so it cannot serve as proof. Therefore, the ultimate proof for a finite samsara is that defilements are adventitious and that the nature of the mind is luminosity. This only means that if the conditions are met, obscurations can be removed and antidotes can arise. This alone cannot prove that samsara is finite, because it confuses the possibility of a result with its certainty. For example, it is like using a seed as proof that a sprout will definitely grow. Furthermore, even if each Buddha and Bodhisattva places many sentient beings in nirvana, samsara will become empty because it is diminishing and not increasing, like a pile of grain. This statement is also unreasonable because the decrease in the number of sentient beings has not been established. For the basis of increase and decrease, there needs to be a definite quantity, but this has not been established for the realm of sentient beings, just like space. Considering this point, the Compendium says: "This wheel of unreason has no end and no increase." And in the Bhadracaryāpraṇidhānarāja, it says: "As far as the limits of space extend, so too are the limits of all sentient beings." Therefore, the statement that all beings will attain buddhahood refers to the possibility of becoming that way if the conditions are met. As Asanga said, the sutra that says "Although one becomes unattached, one still possesses a final existence" refers to the fact that all sentient beings have the possibility of being purified without any difference.

Therefore, the so-called "not deliberately abandoning afflictions in all aspects of the path stage, that is, not relinquishing," is because it is the nature or state of the wisdom of the path in its continuum. This is because it is merely engaging in benefiting sentient beings until the existence of samsara. The former has pervasiveness, otherwise the practice of Bodhi will not be perfected. Here, the so-called "Bodhicitta" refers to clinging to Bodhicitta, explaining the essence and function as Bodhicitta, and explaining the explanation of the wisdom of the path in the Ornament of Clear Realization and Clear Realization as mutually symbolic meanings, which is not the case. Here, since the wisdom of the path is applied to the three of permissibility, object, and pervasiveness, it must also be applied to the remaining two, because there is no reason to distinguish. If "generating the mind of Bodhi" is linked to Bodhicitta, then in the Ornament of Clear Realization and Clear Realization, there will also be the statement that "generating the mind of Bodhi is the wisdom of the path itself, so it will not abandon afflictions in all aspects," which will lead to the same error. So, what are the afflictions that are not abandoned? There are two answers to this: pointing out the cause of taking birth; determining through refutation. The first part is divided into two parts, first explained from the treatises, as stated in the Sunlight Treatise: "The completely non-existent latent tendencies are the latent tendencies contained by ignorance and the outflows of views, but Bodhisattvas, in order to consciously take birth, are not contained by desire and outflows of existence." It is said that these two latent tendencies are also explained as the two evil abodes of desire and upper realm attachment, so one must agree with this. The second part is explained from the Sutra, also divided into two parts, as stated in the Sagaramati Sutra: "What are the afflictions that are the cause of those samsaras, corresponding to the roots of virtue? For example, not being satisfied with completely seeking the accumulation of merit, consciously grasping birth in samsara, striving to encounter Buddhas, not being tired of completely maturing sentient beings, diligently upholding the Dharma, striving in all activities of sentient beings, not being separated from the mind of attachment to the Dharma, and not
