Or great Bodhisattvas, or persons with perfect views, or Arhats who have exhausted defilements, those will truly accept this Mother Sutra as it is spoken. Who will truly accept this Mother Sutra as it is taught? Thus asked Subhuti (Rab-'byor), and Kundga'bo replied. In the Condensed Sutra, it says: "The Buddha-child who is skilled in truth and irreversible, the Arhat who has cleared away impurities and abandoned doubt, and the fourth is one who is fully embraced by a virtuous friend." Thus, the Twenty Thousand Verse Sutra speaks of five types of individuals, the Eight Thousand Verse Sutra speaks of three, and the Condensed Sutra speaks of four, and the first of these is the explanation of seeing the truth. So, what is the object to be taken? And what are the characteristics of those who take it? In the Twenty Thousand Verse Illumination and the Commentary on the Middle Way, it is only said that those who are taught to take the Mother Sutra are taught by the Pratyekabuddhas, but otherwise, there is no explanation in the commentaries on the Twenty Thousand Verse Sutra. In the Ornament Illumination, it says: "The first is the path of the self-Buddha who possesses the two special abandonments, and the second is the irreversible one who is on the path of joining that is irreversible from self-enlightenment, and because he himself desires enlightenment, therefore the Bodhisattva teaches the Dharma with his body in a field where there is no Buddha residing, wanting to accomplish the meaning of sentient beings, therefore he is a great Bodhisattva. Perfect view is having the intermediate view of wisdom, which is the wisdom of the middling vehicle. The Arhat who has exhausted defilements is worthy of offerings because the path of seeing has abandoned the defilements to be abandoned by seeing, and is a path of seeing." Thus it is explained. Again, it says in the same text: "With three words, it is said that the individuals of the lineage that is accomplished in a true way in accordance with the order for self-enlightenment, and the lineage obtained by the nature of Dharma, and the lineage determined by that itself." It is said that the first is the individual of the lineage that is accomplished in a true way, the middle is the individual of the lineage obtained by the nature of Dharma, and the last is the individual of the lineage determined to be a self-Buddha, and there is no clear explanation of which path the perfect view abides on. If those lineages are also increasing and abiding in nature, and which path obtains the irreversible lineage, therefore the third can be combined with the first or not combined, the first two are explained in reverse order, what is the reason for not explaining the reason for abiding on the last two paths? The second type of person in the Twenty Thousand Verse Sutra and the Eight Thousand Verse Sutra has two meanings.

One is, it is said to be the first of the collections, and also one. In the 'Compendium of Explanations' it says: 'The wise one who possesses the view of intermediate wisdom and fully understands the difference between the conventional and the ultimate is a Bodhisattva.' This is an explanation of the second type of person in the 'Eight Thousand Verses,' and it is spoken to the irreversible self-realized solitary practitioner on the path of application. Because it is possible to assess the person with abundant views on the path of accumulation, there is no confusion in the order of the first two lineages. Although the irreversible lineage is obtained from the path of application, it is not contradictory to place it there because it becomes special from the path of seeing. Again, it says in the same text: 'Because all offer, it is an Arhat, that is, the path of seeing, etc., because it abandons the conceptual thoughts grasped by it, it eliminates defilements in order, and because it directly realizes the nature of reality, there is no doubt. Abandoning hesitation is the third.' Because the words 'path of seeing,' etc., are added, it only indicates the one on the path of seeing, so it is also said to abide on the last two paths. In the 'Difficult Explanation of the Compendium,' it says: 'Applying the first person to the one on the path of seeing is inconsistent with the teacher.' Thus, among the four types of persons, the first three are self-continuum, and the last one indicates the basis belonging to other-continuum. It is also explained in this way. What is grasped by the Geshe also represents doing deeds for the Victorious One, etc., and those are universally applicable. Some say that those on the path of application have large and small accumulations, those who abide on the first fifteen paths of seeing are the true seers, those who abide on the sixteenth are Arhats, and those who do deeds for the Victorious One, etc., are like rhinoceros horn-like on the path of accumulation. Because the path mentioned here is the noble path, those on the path of application, etc., are generally characterized by a basis, but here it should be understood as incidental. The second is: Then, starting from the lord of the gods, Indra, and the four great kings of the three thousand great thousand world realms, up to the gods of Akanishta, those gods manifested many divine flowers, Mandarava flowers, and with those flowers they showered the Bhagavan Buddha, the great Bodhisattva, the Sangha of monks, the venerable Subhuti, and this Mother, and so on. These are the manifested flowers.
