And where should it be understood? It's like the Hearer Vehicle. The method is: it is correctly summarized by the two differences of reliance, abandonment, and realization, and the three differences of the basis's lineage. In the first, although there are differences based on the two selflessnesses, since the way of realizing the selflessness of persons is the same as the Hearers, considering that it has already been explained, the Lord did not say it here, and the teacher supplemented the commentary by saying "as it is said." Regarding the abandonment and realization based on the selflessness of phenomena, considering that the difference of realization is easily understood through the difference of abandonment, only a little of the difference of abandonment is mentioned. Among these, there are two differences: the abandonment of the apprehended concept and the non-abandonment of the apprehending concept. The first is that, since one realizes that the external apprehended does not have inherent existence, the conceptual thought of clinging to the external apprehended as a real object is abandoned, that is: Sons of the gods, form is neither profound nor subtle. From here to omniscience, the profound and subtle are negated. This shows that the nature of the emptiness of the apprehended is not profound or subtle in relation to the mind of the solitary realizer, because they realize it as it is. The second is that, since one does not realize that the internal consciousness does not have inherent existence, the conceptual thought of clinging to the appearance of the apprehending as having an object is not abandoned, that is: Subhuti said, Sons of the gods, it is so, it is so. These sentient beings are like illusions, and those who listen to the Dharma are also like illusions. These sentient beings are like emanations, and those who listen to the Dharma are also like emanations. Sons of the gods, form is also like a dream, like an illusion. These examples show that, for example, illusions and emanations, although there is no object, there is a consciousness that appears there, similarly, although the solitary realizer realizes that the object does not have inherent existence, they do not realize that there is no apprehending. These two differences show that the path of the solitary realizer is superior to the Hearer Vehicle and inferior to the Great Vehicle. If someone asks, if it is as said in the Thirty Verses, "Since there is no apprehended, there is no apprehending," then is it not contradictory to abandon the apprehended concept and not abandon the apprehending concept? Regarding this point, the Clear Words says: These solitary Buddhas easily realize through the destruction and formation of the container world, and the sentient beings'

Because the dependent body is completely destroyed, one realizes selflessness, so it is said. The nature of what is grasped, the remaining four aggregates are not. In samsara, it is constantly proclaimed that there is no self, so their wisdom does not enter. It is said that because there is permanence and impermanence in the grasped form aggregate and the grasping remaining four aggregates, there is a difference in the ease and difficulty of realization, therefore it is said that there is a difference between realization and non-realization. Although it is explained in this way, the view of the teacher is stated in the Ornament of Realization: If a self-characterized thing exists, then the non-conceptual wisdom that grasps it will arise with its own character, and if it does not exist, it will not arise. Whatever is said in this way is the nature of things. Because the discriminating consciousness that grasps forms and so on from beginningless time arises from the awakening of the habitual patterns of one's own continuum that have been abandoned as they are extinguished. For grasping discrimination, there is no certainty that it arises only from grasped discrimination. So it is said. The meaning of this is that if what is grasped exists with its own character, then the self-character does not appear to the discriminating mind, therefore there is a non-conceptual, non-erroneous grasping that grasps it. Moreover, if there is no such thing to be grasped, then there is nothing. However, the grasping that appears as what is grasped arises from the habitual patterns left by one's own previous discriminating mind that has continued from beginningless time. Therefore, realizing that what is grasped has no self-nature, one must also realize that grasping is the same, there is no such certainty. There are two differences in the basis: the basis of the practitioner, the individual, and the basis of the object of practice, the nature of reality. First, then, the Venerable Subhuti said to those great Shravakas and gods: Venerable ones, the irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, or those who have seen the truth, or Arhats who have exhausted the defilements, those who have perfected their thoughts, or those who have accomplished the deeds of the previous victors, those who have generated roots of virtue in many Buddhas, or sons and daughters of good families who are completely embraced by spiritual friends, this profound mother, from "Those who are so wise and intelligent will take up this to be known," so it is said. In the Eight Thousand Verses, it is said: Venerable ones, the irreversible Bodhi-
