This also shows that. Furthermore, Venerable Subhuti, how is it that the mind of dedication does not accompany the mind of enlightenment? How is it that the mind of enlightenment does not accompany the mind of dedication? How is it that the mind of dedication does not exist in and is not perceived in the mind of enlightenment? How is it that the mind of enlightenment does not exist in and is not perceived in the mind of dedication? When asked these questions, the answer is: Because they are not minds, they cannot dedicate to each other. This shows going to liberation without attachment, thus showing renunciation. This way of combining sutras is the view of the commentaries on the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra and others. Shantideva, in showing the cessation of the twelve links of dependent origination, divided it into what is ceased and by what it is ceased, and then added seven to each of the two paths of cessation, thus explaining it in twenty-nine ways. In Chandrakirti's work, it is also said that the seven of cessation are the objects to be done, and the seven of the path are the agents that do. The second part has three aspects: how the literal meaning of the sutra shows it, how the meaning is summarized by the root verses, and how the commentators combine these two. The first point is: The sutra says that one should contemplate the characteristics of impermanence, etc., on phenomena such as form. And it also said that the one who contemplates is the Bodhisattva, the motivation is the desire for the Lesser Vehicle, the non-mixed omniscient wisdom is the contemplation, and the way of contemplating is to contemplate in an imperceptible way. In the sutra of the Truth of the Path, the ultimate dedication is also explained, so it was taken first, and finally dedication was also mentioned. Therefore, there is no path of the Hearers in the literal meaning here, because if there were, one would have to want to contemplate impermanence, etc. But as mentioned before, the basis, motivation, contemplation, and the way of final dedication are all related to the Bodhisattva alone. Therefore, the direct teaching of the sutra is the path knowledge itself with an object. Some people disagree with this, thinking it is unreasonable, because the object of path knowledge should be the path of the Hearers, but here only the aspects of the Four Noble Truths are explained. This refutation seems plausible, because in understanding that path, one also knows "For this object, it is apprehended in this way," and one cannot cut off the object's aspect of the independent wisdom that is separate from the object, and without cutting off the object's aspect, one cannot understand the distinctions of wisdom.

So. Secondly, the venerable one summarized the bases for directing the mind to impermanence and so forth as the four truths, the essence of what is to be directed to the mind as the sixteen aspects of the four truths, and the occasion of directing the mind and what is to be known as the path of the Hearers. Although the one who knows is a Bodhisattva, it was not included because it is easy to understand. Thus, the meaning of the sutra is explained here: directing the mind to the sixteen aspects such as impermanence is the path of the Hearers, which is to be known. Directing the mind to the aspects of the four truths without focusing on them is the door or method by which the path is known by the path-knowledge. The root text also says, regarding the manner of the path-knowledge itself: 'The four truths of the noble ones, through the door of non-focusing on the aspects, should be known as the path of the Hearers.' By combining in this way, the object and the text are kept separate, and the subject will be shown. Although the words of the sutra include combining the aspects as what is to be known and non-focusing as the way of knowing, in the treatise, the path of the Hearers is made as what is to be known and realizing the aspects without focusing on them as the way of knowing. Even though it appears in this way, do not think that it is inconsistent, because the meaning of realization is hidden in the sutra, so the venerable one himself is reliable in explaining it. Thirdly, from the 'Sunlight Commentary': 'The establishment of the sixteen aspects that focus on the four truths of the path of the Hearers has been explained.' That is to say, merely directing the mind to impermanence and so forth for the four truths is the path of the Hearers, and directing the mind to the aspects of the truths in a non-focusing way is the view of the Lesser Vehicle, and it is said to be related to the non-common omniscient mind-direction, and it is the same in the 'Commentary on Valid Cognition'. In the 'Ornament of Light Commentary' it also says: 'Thus, through this sequence, in the Great Vehicle, some aspects are shown by name, and some by their own nature, therefore it will not be a fault of being the path of the Hearers.' That is to say, sixteen aspects are taught for the Hearer Vehicle, and thirty-three aspects are taught for the Great Vehicle, these two numbers are inconsistent, therefore, in order to dispel the doubt of whether it is the path taught here, and in the 'Complete Meaning' it also says: 'Here, twenty-nine aspects are the path of the Hearers, because they cause the attainment of enlightenment.' That is because they enter the path-knowledge itself without focusing on them, and before also because of aspiring to great enlightenment, and later also
