Spending time sitting in a squatting position on a low stool or spread grass, squatting without leaning on the back or elbows; sometimes lying down like spread grass and leaves, for a fixed position that is not frequently changed or adjusted, it is to avoid attachment to cushions, mattresses, and coverings. These are like the place of hearing and moonlight. Some consider the latter two as controlling conduct, thus dividing the dwelling place into four types. The second is, for example, uncombed and uncarded wool cannot be used as thread, but the opposite is possible. Similarly, if one is attached to alms, robes, and dwellings, the mind cannot be used for practice, therefore, through these merits, to maintain celibacy, by making the mind suitable for practice, this is called the merit of purification. Not abandoning the training means that one's own precepts of training, even for the sake of life, etc., will not be completely abandoned for the sake of body and enjoyment. In short, just as "all trainings are without cause," do not cling to the characteristics of the trainings. Reproaching desires means to reproach by viewing the qualities of desires, such as forms, sounds, etc., as faults or in an unpleasant manner. Nirvana means to guide sentient beings to Nirvana in accordance with the minds of those to be tamed, that is, to settle them. In short, what is the Nirvana and Bodhicitta of the Great Vehicle? Just as "there is no manifest fabrication for all dharmas," this also appears in the Ornament of Realization and the Moonlight Sutra. The meaning is that for all dharmas, which are by nature Nirvana and the pacification of elaboration, one should not cling to characteristics with conceptual thought. Śānti said, "Abandon sorrow and all possessions." This refers to abandoning weariness with samsara, and this should also be applied to the number of purifications of the fifth ground, which is thirteen. The meaning of the sutra is that this is the way a Bodhisattva makes effort in his own mind; the meaning of the commentary is that through this effort, others are guided to Nirvana, so there is no contradiction. Abandoning all possessions means to completely abandon all possessions by not clinging to the characteristics of internal and external dharmas such as the body. Not being timid means that when practicing virtuous dharmas, the mind is not timid, and one does not cling to objects and not abide. No view means not clinging to the characteristics of all things, which is called no view.

Also ten. The second is, suppression. From where does the fourth, the radiant one, originate? Why is it called that? Like this, the Dharma in harmony with enlightenment, is like a light that intensely burns. Because it possesses that, this ground is radiant because it burns the two. Thus, it is said that the wisdom of the nature of harmony dwells near, burning the two obscurations. By what? By the ten purifications like the above. The way to become purified is like the former. The fifth has two parts. The first is, "Familiarity" and so on, two verses. Since the great Bodhisattva dwells on the fifth ground, these ten dharmas should be completely abandoned. What are the ten? Like this, householders and renunciates and those who rely on them should be completely abandoned, from "and" to "excessive pride and arrogance and perverted views and doubt and desire and hatred and delusion, placed in forbearance," should be completely abandoned. Up to that point. The second has two parts: the nature of purification, abandoning the antidote, and the nature of attainment, together with the method of purification. The first is: Familiarity is gaining and so on, for the sake of respect, renunciates and so on, associating with householders and becoming familiar friends. Abandoning that is going continuously to the Buddha-field, being born miraculously, shaving hair and wearing saffron robes, not even staying together with nuns and the sound of cymbals, not being attached to them, and not obtaining clothes from them. Attachment to home is not showing the home of a renunciate believer near, being jealous of others gaining profit. The antidote is, if I need to accomplish happiness for sentient beings, how can sentient beings allow stinginess to arise towards happiness with their own merit? There are two places that have become noisy. The outer is villages where many people live and so on, and cities and so on. The inner is the place where the mind arises when hearing the words of those who have hearers and self-realizers. The antidote is abandoning those two with body and mind. In short, although the outer is spoken of, it is not contradictory because Bodhisattvas need to be separated from both. That in the Sutra is done mainly. The two, praising oneself and despising others, are through the door of speaking of qualities and faults, praising oneself and
